Chapter 742
Upon hearing this, Nate immediately said, “Carter, don’t worry, I’ll never go after Sharon again!”
Carter furrowed his brow but replied, “It’s not about that.”
Nate blinked. “Then what is it?”
Carter was silent for a few seconds before finally saying, “I want you to take good care of Kelly for the rest of her time.”
Nate froze. “I’ve been taking care of Kelly all along…”
His voice suddenly caught. Only then did he realize the true meaning behind Carter’s words-what kind of care was being asked of him.
“Carter, what do you mean? You don’t want to take care of Kelly anymore?!” Nate’s voice rose in urgency.
Carter’s tone remained calm and cold. “I’ve repaid what I owed Kelly. I divorced for her sake and even gave away a hundred thousand dollars. I’ve done enough for her to settle the debts of the past.
“Nate, you know Theo cannot be without his mother. I don’t want to have another conflict with Sharon over Kelly. If you agree, I will immediately negotiate with your father to restore your position as heir. If you don’t…”

He fixed Nate with a steady gaze. “Even though leaving Kelly in your care would make me more at ease, it’s not that it can’t be done without you.”
Nate caught the implication in Carter’s words. He froze. “Carter… you mean…
Ever since Carter discovered that Kelly had framed Sharon, and that Sharon’s kidnapping and hospitalization were real, his attitude toward Kelly had changed.
From the beginning, Carter had never truly wanted a divorce. If it weren’t for Kelly’s illness, he would have never agreed. Even when he did consent, he had planned to reconcile quickly.
But reality had defied his expectations. Sharon had only drifted further away.
In that case, it was time to resolve things at the root find a proper future for Kelly.
Carter continued, “Nate, think carefully. Even if you don’t agree, someone else will.”

There was a subtle threat in his tone.
It had long been no secret that Nate liked Kelly. But he had never shown jealousy or possessiveness toward her. Even when Kelly and Carter had just started dating, Carter had never needed to hide it from Nate.
Thinking back now, Kelly had muttered more than once that Carter didn’t care about her that much.
Nate made his decision swiftly. “Carter… I’ll do it!”
With Lex plotting in the shadows, Nate knew that without the status of the Hendricks Group heir, he would be powerless to oppose him. If he turned Carter down now, any future misfortune that hit the Hendricks family wouldn’t be covered by Carter’s protection.
As for Kelly… he had always had feelings for her, and her time was running out. From his perspective, agreeing to the deal now was far more beneficial than refusing. Besides, with his all-out war against Lex at its peak, he didn’t have time to deal with Sharon anyway.
Carter nodded, satisfied. “Set up a meeting with your father for tonight. I’ll speak to him myself.”
Nate agreed. At the end of the day, Carter was still making arrangements for Kelly’s sake. The position of head of the Hendricks family would have to be secured by leveraging the power and privileges of Carter’s Biggs Group.
As for whether Carter could ever win Sharon back… Nate wasn’t optimistic. For Kelly’s sake, Carter had already burned that bridge. Winning Sharon back would be anything but easy.
Nate decided that once he secured his position as head of the Hendricks family, if Sharon rejected Carter again, Carter would finally let her go and turn his attention completely back to Kelly.
The break was brief. Sharon soon returned to her next round of competition.
