Chapter 837
Hearing this, Johanna’s heart sank.
Now she was certain-the person Thomas had been searching for was none other than Sharon.
Thomas continued, “At that time, I was suffering from depression. I was drowning in despair, feeling life had lost all meaning. But her music… it rekindled my will to live. In my heart, she became the one who saved me.”
Johanna’s expression shifted into feigned realization. She did not rush to claim she was the one he sought. Instead, she smiled.
“And you never approached her?”
“No,” Thomas said. “I was in no state to. By the time she left, all I found was an earring where she had been.”
His gaze fixed on her.
“Johanna, do you play the violin?”
“A little,” she admitted. “But I’m hardly proficient.”
“And the piece First Love?” he pressed.
Johanna’s eyes widened slightly, feigning surprise. “Thomas, surely you don’t think I’m the one you’re looking for?”
She shook her head with a soft laugh.
“It’s true I once lost an earring, but I don’t remember where. By the time I noticed, it had been gone for quite some time.
“As for First Love… during that period, the piece was immensely popular. Victoria practiced it every day. Since I had learned violin as well, I tried my hand at it for a while too. But it was only ever a hobby, and I eventually set it aside.”
She let a wistful look soften her features.
“Come to think of it, I haven’t touched a violin in ages.’
She hadn’t lied. She and Victoria had first met–and later become close friends-through a shared violin class.
For any well-bred heiress, mastery of music, calligraphy, chess, and painting was expected. Playing at least a few instruments was the bare minimum.
Johanna had studied both violin and piano. Victoria had too.
Thomas lowered his eyes to the earring in his hand.
