Thomas felt an inexplicable sense of unease.

He immediately dialed Sharon’s number.

No answer.

He tried Wendy’s phone. The result was the same.

Thomas called again and again, but none of the calls went through.

That foreboding feeling in his heart only grew heavier.

“Sharon and Wendy are in Listoria City for the competition, aren’t they?” Casey sounded surprised. “If you can’t reach them, maybe it’s because they’re asleep. It’s already ten at night in Zachemaine–perfectly normal if they’ve turned in.”

Thomas asked, “Do you know which hotel they’re staying in?”

“I’m not sure. But last time they went back to Amstern City, Wendy mentioned that their Listoria City schedule was being handled by Julliard. Why don’t you call him?”

“I see.”

Thomas hung up and immediately dialed Julliard.

The phone rang for a long time before disconnecting on its own.

Thomas’s gaze darkened.

Could all three of them be together right now?

He knew enough of Julliard’s feelings for Sharon. With Sharon competing in Listoria City, there was no way he’d let such a chance to ingratiate himself slip by.

Thomas tried again.

“Beep… beep… beep…”

Still no answer.

Thomas refrained from bombarding Sharon and Wendy with calls, not wanting to disturb their rest.

But Julliard? He had no such scruples.

Over and over, relentlessly, he dialed.

At last, after who knew how many attempts, the line connected. On the other end came a man’s voice, tinged with impatience.

“Who is this?”

“It’s Thomas,” Thomas said evenly. “I want to know where Sharon and Wendy are.”

There was a pause, as if the name had caught Julliard off guard. After a few seconds of silence, he answered,” They should be at the hotel, resting.”

“But I’ve called them, and neither is picking up.”

“Perhaps they’re showering. Perhaps they’re asleep. Isn’t it perfectly normal not to get through right now?”

Thomas pressed on. “Didn’t you arrange their accommodations? Which hotel are they in? I’ll have the staff call their room.”

“Thomas,” Julliard’s tone suddenly cooled, “it’s already very late. Sharon and Wendy are resting. Do you mean to disturb their sleep? Whatever the matter is, can it not wait until morning?”

Thomas narrowed his eyes. “You can’t reach them either, and you’re not worried they might be in trouble?”
