Chapter 918
Sharon’s pupils shrank. “Jamie?”

Jamie’s lips curved in a ghostly smile. “It really isn’t easy to meet you in person. Took me quite a bit of effort.”
Sharon cast a quick glance around.
Not a dark warehouse, nor some dingy basement. Instead, it looked like a villa–bright, spotless, almost pristine.
Several black–clad bodyguards stood nearby.
Not far away, Wendy lay unconscious on the floor.
Sharon forced herself to remain calm. She fixed her gaze on Jamie.
“What is the meaning of this?”
His tone was cool, detached. “Sharon, you’re such a good actress. Always pretending not to know.”
Sharon didn’t bother playing along.
“Even if you interrogate me a hundred times, my answer won’t change. What happened to Victoria has nothing to do with me.”
Jamie lounged back on the sofa with effortless elegance.
“Of course. A clever woman like you wouldn’t dirty her own hands and risk leaving evidence.”
His smile twisted into something strange.
“Much better to send others to kill and die for you, while you sit untouched–your reputation spotless, your innocence intact.”
Sharon knew full well–at this moment, she was the fish on the chopping block, he the knife above her. Going head–to–head would only be suicide. 1
“Jamie, I’ve explained countless times. Exposing Victoria as an illegitimate child does me no good whatsoever.”
Jamie’s lips quirked faintly. “No benefit from a practical standpoint, perhaps. But what about emotionally?”
His cold, venom–laced gaze locked on her, like a snake poised to strike.
“You envy Victoria’s status as a wealthy heiress, so you want to destroy her. You feared she might defeat you in the violin competition, so you leaked the news beforehand―ruining her chance to perform. Sharon, did you want to ruin Victoria completely?” 1
When one wants to condemn, excuses are never in short supply.
Sharon understood–Jamie hadn’t dragged her here just to let her go. He intended to crush her, no matter what.
But she would never admit it. Not so easily.

She had to stall–long enough for Julliard to notice her disappearance and come for her.

“Jamie,” she said steadily, “there is no grudge between Victoria and me. And the idea that I feared her surpassing me is absurd. Forgive me if this offends you, but I’ll be blunt–her talent may be strong, but compared to mine… she still falls far short.”
She had heard Victoria play before. Yes, impressive–better than Kelly, certainly. But defeating Victoria? That had never been a concern.
She had never considered Victoria a true rival.
Jamie’s expression didn’t shift an inch.
