He stared out at the night, his reflection in the car window revealing a face carved from stone. But in the depths of his eyes, a glint of icy venom flickered.

The driver ferried him across the city, checking every suspicious location.

But Julliard’s injuries were catching up with him. His stamina was waning. He leaned against the back seat— and at some point, sleep claimed him.

He didn’t know how long he had dozed before a sudden jolt of hard braking snapped him awake.

His eyes shot open, his voice cold. “What happened?”

The driver stammered, voice trembling, “M–Mr. Macaron… several cars have surrounded us…”

In Listoria City, few dared block Julliard’s path. He might have been known for his calm demeanor, but he was far from a pushover.

His brows knitted into a tight frown as he pushed the car door open.

The driver rushed to stop him. “Mr. Macaron, you’re still injured–if these men mean you harm-”

But before he could finish, Julliard had already stepped out, because he’d seen the tall, familiar figure emerging from one of the cars not far away.

He knew that man. Xavier.

“To what do I owe the honor of you stopping my car in the middle of the night, Xavier?”

Xavier’s gaze locked onto him. “Where are Sharon and Wendy?”

Julliard’s mind turned swiftly before he answered, evenly, “I don’t know. I’m looking for them myself.”

Xavier arched a brow. “You’re looking for Sharon too?”

“Yes,” Julliard said without hesitation. “Not long ago, Thomas called me–he said Sharon was unreachable. I sent men to her hotel, but neither she nor Wendy were there. I’ve been searching for them ever since.”

In truth, after his earlier “heroic rescue,” Julliard had worried Carter might discover something once he regained consciousness. So he had deliberately erased every trace of Sharon and Wendy’s recent movements.
