Chapter 936
Xavier quickly realized who was tailing him.
His brows knit.
Why was Julliard following him instead of pursuing the suspicious vehicle?
After a few seconds of silence, Xavier lowered his gaze in thought, then dialed Julliard’s number.
“Shouldn’t you be chasing the kidnappers right now, instead of trailing me? After all, I’m not the one who abducted Sharon.”
Julliard’s voice came calm and detached.
“Naturally, I have men checking on suspicious vehicles. But you… You said not long ago that now isn’t the time for grudges or selfishness. Yet you find a lead and choose to stay quiet.”
Xavier replied evenly, “Julliard, I can’t guarantee the people I’m after are the culprits, nor that Sharon is in that car. The best option now is to split up.”
Julliard gave a soft, humorless laugh. “How I proceed is none of your concern.”
Xavier paused, silence stretching between them. Finally, he said, “If you insist on following me, be my guest,” and ended the
call.
Still, Julliard’s decision to trail him proved one thing: he hadn’t uncovered anything useful either.
Moments later, however, Julliard’s phone rang.
On the other end, a panicked subordinate shouted, “Sir, bad news! The vehicle we were pursuing went off the overpass! We found Wendy inside!”
Julliard’s expression changed instantly. “And Sharon?!”
“We didn’t see Sharon, but we can’t rule out that she was inside. Our men are still retrieving the wreck.”
For a moment, Julliard felt his heart stop. Darkness crowded his vision, dizziness threatening to swallow him whole.
Then he forced himself to steady, barking at his assistant, “Turn around! Head to the overpass, now!”
Xavier noticed the car behind him veer off in another direction.
“Did he find something?” Xavier frowned, but unlike Julliard, he didn’t turn back.
He had to stay on Lex’s trail. If Sharon were with Lex, running after Julliard would only waste precious time.
Julliard stood pale-faced on the overpass.
Wendy had been dragged from the wreck, unconscious from the crash and half-drowned. She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. 1
The search continued.
By the time dawn crept over the horizon, the sun dim through gray mist, the car was finally hauled from the water.
Inside, it was empty.
Other men reported back that there was no trace of Sharon at the bottom of the river either.
Julliard didn’t know if she had never been in that car, or if the current had already carried her away.

Just then, his phone rang again.
It was Xavier.
“I’ve got Lex in custody,” Xavier said grimly, “but he refuses to speak. And Sharon isn’t with him.”
