Chapter 971
Carol glanced around at the guests showering Victoria with praise. “And you’re telling me that’s not deliberate?”
Ginny gave a faint laugh. “Of course not. If Victoria ever truly decided to take things seriously, her brilliance would crush everyone in sight. That’s the only way she’d be worthy of her title as society’s number one heiress.”
Melanie couldn’t help but shoot her a curious look. “Ginny, have you actually seen Victoria when she’s serious?”
Ginny’s expression turned thoughtful. “It was years ago. Back then, there was another well–known heiress in our circle, Helena Morgan. She had a childhood sweetheart who was also her fiancé. They were close, and the families were preparing for an engagement.
“But everything changed the day Helena invited Victoria to her birthday banquet. From that moment on, her fiancé fell for Victoria instead–so deeply he even demanded to break off the engagement. It caused a scandal. What should have been a picture–perfect love story collapsed into something ugly, leaving the two of them bitter enemies.
“Since then, Helena has hated Victoria and looked for every chance to cause her trouble.”
Carol lowered her voice. “And how did Victoria handle it?”
“At first, she ignored her,” Ginny replied. “But Helena only grew bolder. She once dumped a glass of red wine all over Victoria and even shoved her into a swimming pool. Petty tricks, yes—but they finally provoked Victoria’s temper.”
Here Ginny paused, then asked almost casually, “Do you know how the Morgan family made its fortune?”
Melanie’s impatience showed. “Ginny, don’t keep us guessing. Just tell us already!”
Smiling, Ginny explained, “The Morgan family built their empire on perfume. One year, they hosted a grand fragrance exhibition and invited half the city’s elite. Victoria attended. And in full view of everyone, she publicly crushed Helena–outshining the Morgan family’s own star protégé in the very field their name was built upon. In that moment, Victoria reduced her to nothing.”
Ginny’s lips curved with a knowing smile. “Back then, Victoria was already well–known, but she hadn’t yet earned the title of number one heiress. After that incident, her reputation spread like
wildfire.”
Both Melanie and Carol instinctively turned to where Victoria stood, radiant at the center of the crowd. She hadn’t done or said anything to them personally, yet they felt an instinctive resistance toward her, a natural aversion to someone so untouchable.

Melanie’s brows knit with worry. “But no matter how you put it, tonight’s banquet is supposed to be about Sharon. Yet all anyone talks about is Victoria. Sharon has no presence at all. And when she finally arrives, people will compare her to Victoria.”
In truth, Melanie had already overheard guests using Victoria’s brilliance as a way to belittle Sharon.
But Ginny remained utterly calm. She smiled lightly. “Don’t worry. Victoria may be exceptional, but Sharon is not inferior. Victoria’s beauty can overshadow ordinary heiresses, but it won’t outshine
Sharon.‘
