Chapter 988

After Sharon signed the agreement with Jamie, she left the room with Thomas at her side.

This time, neither the Kalen family nor Jamie made any move to stop them.

The corridor lay in silence, broken only by the muffled thud of high heels striking the red

carpet.

Walking beside her, Thomas asked, “Was this how they used to treat you?”

Sharon knew who he meant-the Kalen family.

“More or less,” she replied.

Back t

whether it was her or Scott and Silas, they had all been young. Words flew sharp

tered, every slight delivered without hesitation. Now, their attitudes hadn’t

ged, but their contempt came laced with a thin veneer of false civility.

They walked a distance in silence before Sharon finally asked, “Thomas, do you really have evidence?”

You’re only asking me that now? Don’t you think it’s a little

and if I didn’t have evidence?” His tone carried a faint edge. “What if I was only bluffing? Would you really sell them your original shares?”

Sharon let out a soft laugh. “Of course not. If you didn’t have evidence, I’d simply refuse to go through with it.”

Thomas blinked, almost surprised. “Refuse?”

“Yes.” She didn’t hide her meaning. “With someone like Jamie, you don’t need to cling to principles or reputation. Didn’t he deny responsibility after kidnapping me? I’m only

borrowing a page from his book.”

Her lips curved into the faintest, coldest of smiles.

“He loves to toy with people. Loves watching others fall into despair, doesn’t he? Well, since he’s so eager to help Victoria wrest iny shares from me, why shouldn’t I toy with him instead?”

Whether Thomas truly had evidence or not, Sharon hadn’t known. They hadn’t discussed it beforehand. Her quick agreement to the Kalen family’s terms hadn’t come from blind trust in him-it had been her own decision, born of a desire to bait Jamie and the Kalens into her

game.

“Transferring shares is complicated,” she said. “Without my signature and cooperation, they can’t touch them. Besides, an unequal contract like this has no legal weight. If I can’t prove Jamie kidnapped me, why would I sell off my original shares? It’s absurd. That so- called agreement is neither business nor transaction. No law would uphold something so one-sided.

“Now that I’ve returned to the Kalen family, Jamie can’t use force against me the way he once did.”

She would never pin her survival on another person. The moment she agreed to Jamie’s terms, she had already accepted responsibility for the consequences.

She turned toward Thomas, ready to ask why he had spoken up in that moment-only to find him watching her. His refined features softened, his eyes rippling with light like waves catching the sun.

Sharon froze. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
