Damon sighed. Clearly, talking was not going to work with these two. He silently took out a spatial pouch, transferred some gold coins into it and tossed it onto the table. "There I have paid for the first hundred books. Now can I continue browsing?"
"Huh? What hundred gold coins? Puha! You can’t even buy a single page with that measly amount. Do you even know how much a single skill book costs? Who let you inside the clan market? Are you a stray?"
The guy scoffed and continued his rambling. His eyes then quickly darted to Marianne to check if she was still pleased with his response. But unexpectedly, she stood frozen like a statue. Her mouth was open and her eyes were widened and she stared at Damon without blinking.
"Did... did you just say you paid for a hundred books?" She stammered. She hurriedly grabbed the spatial pouch and confirmed the contents within. Her body started trembling and she looked up, swallowing nervously.
"I am so sorry, my Lord. I was stupid just now. Please forgive my impudence. I will immediately pack these books up for you. Please feel free to continue browsing and let me know if I can assist you in any way."
Damon nodded. He was not in the mood to make this silly thing a big deal so he casually waved his hand and continued looking. 1000 gold coins was indeed a lot of money but it was nothing compared to the usefulness of these skill books and the time it would save everyone on his team.
He browsed through the shelves and started pulling out more and more skill books. Meanwhile, the other guy looked unhappy. He thought that he had finally obtained a chance to impress Marianne but everything backfired on him. Still, he was quite confident that they did not have to be so nervous. After all, money was not everything.
"Excuse me. Before you start taking out any more skill books, please wait. Just money alone is not enough to make a purchase in this shop. Moreover, you can only buy one or two books at most. You cannot come in here and buy whatever you want. Even if you have somehow managed to procure the gold coins."
This time, Damon did not even bother looking at the guy. He took out the medallion Hinata had given him and showed it. "Is this enough or should I call Hinata personally to come here and vouch for me?"
Damon did not hesitate at all. He freely used her name and threw her weight around. This was precisely why he had taken such a big risk and entered the Valeross family so he did not plan to shy away now.
The trick worked like a charm. Hearing Hinata’s name, both the shop attendants looked utterly dumbfounded. They were even more shocked to hear her name than at the pouch of coins. For a full second, both attendants simply stared, mouths open.
"Hinata... Hinata Valeross?" Marianne blurted. Her earlier bossiness drained away like water. The other man’s bravado vanished in the same heartbeat; his shoulders dropped, and he looked suddenly small.
