osephine put down the kitchen knife and straightened her qipao.
Afraid of pulling her scalp, she had to keep her neck stiff as she went to open the door.
On the video intercom, there was only Zachery, holding two bottles of fruit wine.
Josephine opened the door, a smile curling at her lips.
“Dr. Maynard, you came at just the right time. I need a little favor, and I’ll pay you for it…”
Zachery liked hearing that.
Being valued by Josephine made him feel happy and content.
“My pleasure.”
There were clear smile lines at the corners of Zachery’s eyes.
He walked in and, as if it were second nature, found his slippers.
He had bought these slippers himself and put them there himself, and Josephine hadn’t thrown them away…
Josephine stiffened her neck, took the wine with both hands, and set it temporarily in the entryway.
Zachery noticed something was off about her.
Her hair fell loosely over her shoulders, which should have looked lazy and casual, but she seemed as if she were restrained.
“Are you feeling unwell somewhere?”
Josephine nodded out of habit, only to tug at her scalp.
The pain made her features scrunch together.
“My hair is caught in the zipper…”

“Let me take a look.”
Zachery placed his hands on Josephine’s shoulders, intending to turn her around to check.
Josephine said, “I mean, I just wanted to borrow your scissors.”
Zachery slowly withdrew his hands from Josephine’s shoulders.
A flicker of an unreadable light flashed in his deep, dark eyes.
He said, “I forgot where I put the scissors at home. It might be a bit troublesome to find them.”
Josephine replied, “It’s fine, I’ll just use the kitchen knife at home then.”
Zachery added, “If you accidentally hurt your neck, wouldn’t that be even more troublesome?”
“Then Dr. Maynard, do you have a less troublesome solution?” Josephine raised her eyebrows slightly.
A faint smile curved at the corner of Zachery’s mouth.
“Turn around, I’ll help you get your hair out. It’ll only take two seconds.”
Josephine weighed whether it was appropriate to do so.
After all, it’s not like they’re living in feudal times.
Backless dresses, crop tops, bikinis–people wear them all over the streets.
Letting Zachery help her with the zipper on her back would reveal less than some people’s chests.
As long as neither of them overthought it, it was nothing.
Josephine politely said, “Sorry to trouble you.”
After a whole day of being pinned up, her hair, once lightly fragrant, now gave off a stronger
scent.
As she turned around, the fragrance wafted up, like a gentle breeze brushing his face, lingering at Zachery’s nose.
Zachery couldn’t help but take a deep breath, letting the scent seep into his lungs.

To keep it a little longer, Zachery held his breath, only exhaling slowly after a long while…
Josephine’s gaze remained fixed on their shadows cast on the carpet.
It was like looking into a mirror.
She saw Zachery’s hand first grip the qipao, lifting it up to relieve the tension on her scalp.
Then, pinching the ends of her hair, he pulled them out strand by strand.
After all, he was a surgeon–he had patience.
What he had just said would take two seconds, but two minutes had passed and he was still unhurried.
“Does it hurt?” he asked.
Josephine replied, “No, it doesn’t.”
Not only did it not hurt, it was a little ticklish.
Josephine felt a tickle in her heart.
O
Zachery probably didn’t realize that his breath, like a mini humidifier, was misting over the back of her neck.
If there were any fine hairs there, they’d surely be covered in tiny droplets.
It made her neck itch, and her heart itch too. She just hoped Zachery would finish soon so she could scratch it.
“Dr. Maynard, it really doesn’t hurt. You can be a little rougher, a little faster.”
