Chapter 161
He bent down and said to Natalia, “Natalia, you’ve just recovered from being sick, so you can’t touch cold water. Daddy will carry you across Brookcross Bridge.”
Natalia hesitated, saying, “But Daddy, I want to hold Mia’s hand while crossing Brookcross Bridge.”
Josephine gently coaxed her, “Let Daddy carry you. Auntie and I will hold Mia’s hand and follow right behind you. That way, it’s like we’re all crossing Brookcross Bridge together, isn’t it?”
Clara added, “Natalia, listen to your mom and dad. They won’t do anything to hurt you.”
After spending most of the day together and observing, Clara realized that although Josephine wasn’t Natalia’s biological mother, she truly loved Natalia from the bottom of her heart.
She couldn’t even compare her feelings for Mia to the way Josephine cared for Natalia.
“Okay,” Natalia nodded obediently.
Josephine noticed that Natalia was wearing a fingerprint ring.
Thinking of something, she held Natalia’s little hand and tapped a few times on the fingerprint ring, then put it back on Natalia’s finger.
Brookcross Bridge was made up of stones of various shapes and sizes, with water flowing through the gaps between them.
There were so many people that if anyone suddenly stopped while walking, those behind would have nowhere to step and might lose their balance and fall into the water.
So the staff at the scenic area kept shouting through a megaphone, telling everyone not to rush, not to push, and to put safety first…
After giving Belinda her instructions, Helena looked around for Josephine and Natalia.
She ended up seeing Zachery pick Natalia up.
Josephine and Clara walked behind them.

Before she could even put her plan into action, it was already foiled. Helena bit her molars in frustration.
Belinda was still mulling over Helena’s words. Bump into something? Get hurt?
Josephine and the others crossed Brookcross Bridge without incident.
Josephine glanced back and saw that Helena and Belinda were at the very end, nowhere near them.
Could it be that she was just overthinking things?!
The staff instructed the tourists to dim their lights to the lowest setting and follow the winding path.
“Mom, look, there are fireflies!” Natalia excitedly shook Josephine’s hand.
Josephine held onto Natalia tightly, not letting her run off.
Zachery pointed out to Josephine that a large group of fireflies was flying toward them.
Within minutes, both sides of their path were filled with star–like lights, drifting gently, flickering on and off.
A grand feast of light and shadow was reflected in Josephine’s eyes.
“It’s so beautiful,” she couldn’t help but whisper, her voice full of delight.
Zachery wasn’t looking at the fireflies; behind his silver–rimmed glasses, his dark pupils were filled only with Josephine’s reflection.
The glow of the fireflies lit up Josephine’s face as she savored this simple yet breathtaking
moment.
“It was worth coming today.”
She felt a long–lost sense of peace and contentment.
She looked at Zachery, her eyes shining brightly: “Thank you, Dr. Maynard.”
A deep smile spread across Zachery’s face, satisfaction lingering in his heart, and as he savored the moment, he even detected a hint of sweetness…
He thought to himself that he would bring her here again in the future…
