Chapter 193
Gideon, who had followed Elara out, saw the whole scene clearly and took photos to send to Josephine.
“Elara gave Helena a packet of unknown drugs.”
***
Josephine received a message from Gideon before going to bed.
The moment she heard about the unidentified drug, she immediately understood what it was and who Helena intended to use it on.
Those mother and daughter really were something else, their self–deprecation and lack of self- respect were truly astonishing.
Did they really think they could use their bodies to tie a man’s heart, gambling on his morals and conscience?
Did it never occur to them that if the men they targeted truly had morals and conscience, would they betray their marriages and families for women like them?
Josephine wasn’t so kind as to warn Wilfred.
She replied to Gideon: “You need to be careful, don’t let Elara take advantage of you… And don’t eat or drink anything that’s been out of your sight.”
Gideon replied: “Understood.”
Three days later.
Josephine was having hotpot with Patricia when she received a message from Gideon asking for help.
“I’m in a private room at the Enigma Bar. Mr. Hayden, Shane, and Declan are in the VIP area on the second floor. Elara wants to go somewhere else, and I’m trapped in the private room and can’t get out.”
Josephine replied: “Stall them for twenty minutes, I’ll come and distract them.”
Enigma Bar, second floor VIP area.

Chapter193
The metal screen maintained an air of mystery while still allowing visibility.

As long as someone inside wanted to look, they could take in the entire view of the first floor.
Shane and Declan sat on the sofa near the screen, one smoking, the other drinking.
Their gazes were fixed in unison on Wilfred, who sat across from them with a stern expression.
Wilfred held a stack of men’s photos in his hand, sorting through them one by one.
There were two candidates whose overall conditions were most suitable for Helena.
One was an illegitimate son from a wealthy family.
The other was a well–educated and good–looking collateral relative of a prominent family.
With a cigarette between his fingers, Shane glanced at Wilfred and asked, “Are you really willing to marry Lena off?”
Wilfred took a swig of his drink, the alcohol burning his throat, and didn’t speak for a long time.
Declan shot back at Shane, “If it were you, would you be willing to marry Lena?”
Shane let out a snort, his tone arrogant: “Being willing to marry and being able to marry are two different things. If I were to bring someone home, she’d have to be from a respectable family, dignified and gracious… What I mean is, Wilfred can just keep Lena on the side for fun, there’s no need to actually marry her off.”
Declan nodded in agreement.
The two of them looked at Wilfred again, waiting for him to make up his mind.
In families like theirs, their views on marriage had been shaped and ingrained since childhood.
Marriage had to be between equals, with matched status and power, always putting family honor and interests first.
Wilfred naturally understood this.
Back then, the reason he insisted on marrying Josephine was, first, because he couldn’t resist the allure she carried.
Second, he believed Josephine could help take his career to the next level.
He wasn’t the lovesick fool others made him out to be; as the only son of the Hayden family, he couldn’t afford to be.

So, when he said he would take responsibility for Helena, it was only lip service he would never actually follow through.
Wilfred admitted to himself that he was a scumbag.
After downing two more drinks, he finally spoke: “I’ll give her a generous dowry, so she can hold her head high in front of others.”
