chapter274
In the guest room,
Wesley lay awake, unable to sleep.
The moment he closed his eyes, Cecilia’s disgusted look and sharp accusations flooded his mind.
He’d realized their misunderstandings were piling up.
Conflicts multiplied,
and they’d start bickering after barely two sentences.
This relationship had been broken for a long time.
Yet he couldn’t bring himself to let go, still clutching at straws to fix it.
But no matter what he did,
Cecilia always saw ulterior motives behind his actions.
When Cecilia woke, Wesley had just emerged from the walk–in closet.
He wore a black shirt, his frame tall and straight.
His expression remained impassive as his gaze swept over her.
Rubbing her temples, Cecilia sat up and reached for her phone–she’d set an alarm,
Perhaps because she’d lain awake half the night, only dozing off at dawn, she’d slept right through it.

She worried about Gwendolyn.
Her eyes drifted back to Wesley, wanting to discuss Luciano’s blind date with Chu Fangfei.
But by the time she washed up and went downstairs, Wesley had already left.
At the dining table, Luciano was having breakfast with Gwendolyn. Seeing Cecilia, he frowned slightly. “Did you two argue?”
Wesley had clearly been in a bad mood when he left.
Cecilia took a bite of her egg, thought for a moment, then asked, “Was Wesley forcing you into that blind date with Chu Fangfei?”
Luciano’s eyes widened in realization. “Is that why you fought?”
Cecilia spoke earnestly. “Regardless, I don’t want you with Chu Fangfei. Her… her mother isn’t the easiest person to get along with.”
“I’m willing.”
Luciano sent Gwendolyn to the living room before responding calmly. “You know my mother’s been pushing me to marry. It doesn’t matter
who.”
Cecilia stared, stunned. He was willing?
Anyone willing to consider the Carlton family?
She frowned. “Think carefully. Marriage is a lifetime commitment. One wrong step leads to another.”
Like her, still stuck in this mess.
“You’ve misunderstood Wesley. He just mentioned it casually. I agreed

to meet.”
Luciano explained.
It was what he wanted too.
Since Luciano volunteered, Cecilia had nothing more to say.
After breakfast, she headed to her studio.
Two custom perfumes needed final tweaks. Plus, with Corrine’s surgery approaching, she had to make time to accompany her.
Only after a busy morning did Cecilia find time to rest.
With no urgent tasks that afternoon, she left the studio with assistant Thomas Clark White Brown Evans Wilson Williams and went to the hospital.
Approaching the hospital room, she heard Juniper’s voice.
Cecilia practically burst inside.
But the scene wasn’t the explosive confrontation she’d imagined.
Corrine even–managed a smile. “Cilla.”
Juniper bit her lip, hesitantly offering a greeting.
“Cecilia.”
A stark contrast to her former haughty self.
Cecilia didn’t look at her, walking straight to Corrine’s bedside. “How are you feeling today?”
Juniper bristled.

“Cecilia, I said hello! Why are you ignoring me?”
She was the daughter Holden held dear in the palm of his hand; aside from Cecilia, no one dared cross her.
Even after days at the police station, her temper remained as fiery as
ever.
But Cecilia and Corrine simply ignored her.
Left hanging, Juniper felt humiliated, yet miraculously kept her
composure.
She muttered, “Cecilia, you’re a Johnson too. We might have shared the same ancestors five centuries back.
Cecilia lifted her gaze, watching her in silence.
Juniper deflated. “I came to apologize.”
She glanced sheepishly at Corrine. “Targeting you because of Larissa was wrong.”
Her eyes dropped to Corrine’s hands. “And I shouldn’t have taken her to the old mansion.”
Corrine remained silent.
Juniper continued, “I own my mistakes. But whoever used me won’t get away with it. Just wait.”
She clicked her heels and strode out.
Corrine frowned. “What did she mean?”
Cecilia gave her shoulder a reassuring pat. “I’ll check.”
Before reaching the hallway, screams pierced from Larissa’s room.

Cecilia peered through the doorway.
Chaos reigned inside.
Juniper’s bodyguards pinned Tania down while Juniper herself held Larissa, slapping her hard across the face.
“Betraying me, huh, Larissa? You think Juniper is a pushover, eh?”
Juniper always saw Larissa as her best sister. She genuinely planned for Larissa, hoping she could marry Johan and join the Johnson family.
She even went after Corrine for her, kidnapping Gwendolyn.
But in the end, she got betrayal.
This was the biggest loss Juniper had ever suffered in her life.
“Juniper, Juniper, listen to my explanation.”
Larissa could only beg for mercy, “I know you’re angry, but I had no choice.”
She cried about her hardships.
“You know, your brother doesn’t like me, and the Carlton family won’t take me back as their daughter. If I go to jail, my life will be ruined.”
“But you’re different. You have loving parents and a brother. They won’t just watch you get hurt. Look, you’re standing here fine.”
