chapter282
So why should she care?
Larissa could stay here forever for all she cared.
“Sleep now. I’ll go with you to your prenatal appointment tomorrow.”
Wesley remembered every single appointment for Cecilia’s checkups.
Silence hung in the room for a moment.
Wesley’s voice broke through again, “Do you want to get married before the baby comes, or after?”
He preferred marrying before the birth, but decided Cecilia’s opinion mattered more.
Long after his words faded, no answer came.
Wesley’s lips twisted at the corners in self–mockery as he clicked off the light.
He knew Cecilia wasn’t asleep.
Her silence meant she simply didn’t want to speak to him.
It had become her habit since returning–when she didn’t want to deal with him, she pretended to be asleep.
Johan’s Arrangements for Corrine
Cecilia helped Noah get dressed and took him downstairs.
At the dining table, Wesley and Larissa were having breakfast.

Larissa immediately stood up upon seeing Cecilia, cautiously addressing her, “Sister–in–law.”
Cecilia swept a cool glance over them, taking Noah’s hand to leave.
“Cilla.”
Wesley approached, gripping her shoulder. “Have breakfast first.”
Larissa fawned, “Sister–in–law, my brother only let me stay overnight because he worried about my safety. Please don’t misunderstand.”
Seemingly humble, yet dripping with bravado–flaunting Wesley’s indulgence toward his sister.
Cecilia lost her appetite before even eating.
“Not hungry.”
She brushed off Wesley’s hand, took Noah, and drove straight away.
Wesley’s expression darkened.
Larissa murmured softly, “Sister–in–law still doesn’t like me.”
Wesley checked his watch. “I’ll take you home.”
Larissa pleaded pitifully, “Brother, I don’t want to go back. I don’t want to see Johan. Let me stay here a few days.”
“Then go to your mother’s.”
Wesley grabbed his car keys and left.
Mrs. Bradshaw had divorced Dillon. After Wesley’s warnings, Dillon left Aetherton, so the Wilburn estate now stood occupied solely by Mrs. Bradshaw.

Larissa staying here was no trouble at all.
Larissa had no choice but to agree.
Back at the Wilburn estate, Wesley didn’t even come inside before leaving.
Tania held her daughter, concern etched on her face. “Larissa, why are you back?”
Tears streamed down Larissa’s face. “Mom, Johan… he doesn’t want me anymore.”
She could painfully feel Wesley’s growing distance.
“What about Johan?”
Tania pressed.
Larissa shook her head. “He doesn’t like me.”
“Doesn’t matter if he likes you,” Tania countered, a calculating glint in her eyes. “As long as you hold firmly onto your position as Mrs. Johnson, no one can shake your standing. What you need now is to have a baby.”
A child would secure her place even more.
Corrine’s surgery was a success.
Though her hand could never grip with much force again, it had regained some function.
She had already started practicing using her left hand.

left hand.
It was difficult, but she persevered.
Cecilia sat quietly beside her.
Over an hour later, Corrine finally set down her pen and paper.
Juniper wandered in from the doorway. “Cecilia, Corrine, my dad’s here.”
Holden entered.
Corrine watched him with cold indifference; she held no favorable opinion of Holden.
After all, Holden had never liked ordinary people like her.
Holden broke his usual cold demeanor and showed a faint smile.
“Corrine, are you feeling better?”
Corrine asked flatly, “What do you want?”
Holden didn’t seem bothered by her coldness; his voice stayed gentle.
“Corrine, come home.”
Home?
Corrine froze. Home where?
The Johnson family?
But she wasn’t part of that family.
Holden continued, “Corrine, you were adopted by my brother and his wife. They’re gone now.”

“I should take responsibility. So come home with me. From now on you’ll be a daughter of the Johnson family, just like Juniper.”
Juniper said happily, “Corrine, you’ll be my sister now. Don’t worry, I’ll take care of you.”
Corrine didn’t know why Holden suddenly wanted her back, but she was sure it wasn’t for anything good.
So she refused outright.
“I cut ties with the Johnson family three years ago.”
“Corrine.”
“Please leave.”
Cecilia stood up immediately. “Get out.”
Holden frowned. He still remembered Corrine as a timid girl. After three years, she’d become sharp.
“Corrine, I need to talk to you.”
Holden changed his approach and told Juniper and Cecilia to leave.
Cecilia naturally refused.
But Corrine still made her leave.
After the person left, Holden said: “Corrine, don’t you want to know how your parents really died?”
Corrine instantly jerked upright, left hand fisting the blanket.
“What do you mean by that?”
Her parents died saving Johan’s parents, so later Johan’s parents

brought her to the Johnson family, raising her as their own.
Holden walked to the window, his voice low. “Your parents died because they knew too much. They were silenced.”
Corrine’s teeth clenched as she pressed: “What secret?
