Aria’s POV

:

“That’s total bullshit! Aria isn’t your damn property!” Zane yelled furiously.

Grayson gave a cold smirk. “Whatever she is, she’s not your wife.”

“Or—” Quentina raised her voice, cutting through the tension. “-Alpha Grayson, you let Aria come and stay with me. Just until the next trial. Give each other some space, calm down a little. Maybe that’s the only way to fix your relationship. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure she and Zane don’t meet again.”

Grayson’s expression flickered. It was obvious he didn’t like the idea.

I looked at him pleadingly. “Grayson, please. It’s just for a couple of days. We need this.”

“You can come with me to cool off,” he snapped. “Why would you rather stay with a woman you barely even know?”

“Then why did you give up your vote?” I burst out, tears welling in my eyes. “You promised me! You promised you’d make the people who hurt me pay. But in the end, you still chose Isla! Yeah so that was my question- why did you betray me?!”

He frowned but didn’t say a word. That silence crushed me even more. I wiped at my tears and whispered, “See? You can’t even answer me. So let’s just take a break. We both need time to think.”

He stared at me for a few seconds, his face cold as stone. Then he abruptly turned and stormed toward the door.

“Don’t see Zane Elrod again,” he warned before he left, his voice low and sharp. “Or I’ll make sure you both regret it.”

The moment he disappeared through the doorway, my knees went weak. I almost collapsed, but Lady Quentina caught me by the arm.

“Don’t worry,” she said softly. “You’re safe now.”

“Can you believe that bastard?” Zane growled. “Forget him. Come with me right now. We’ll get married and end this.”

I shook my head quickly. Grayson’s reaction just now only proved I couldn’t drag Zane into this mess. “I’m not marrying you, Zane.”

“Why? You’re really afraid of his threats?” he asked, frustrated.

“Yes,” I said quietly. “But that’s not the only reason.”

Zane looked at me, disappointment flashing across his face. “Alright. If that’s what you’ve decided, fine. I’ll go back and figure something out. Maybe there’s still a way to change Damian’s vote.”

“I’ll talk to other Alphas too,” Lady Quentina said gently, wrapping an arm around my shoulder. “Come on, Aria. Let’s go.”

I followed her out of the hotel. The moment I got into the car, the tears I’d been holding back finally fell.

When I asked Grayson why he abstained, I wanted so badly for him to explain himself–just fucking say something. But he didn’t. He didn’t even think I deserved an explanation.

Did it mean that he didn’t care anymore? That he’d already decided to just let me fall?

Hearing my soft sobs, Quentina reached over and squeezed my hand. “Don’t worry. We’ll find another way to win you more votes.”

I nodded silently. But I knew she was only trying to comfort me.

I had probably already lost Damian’s vote. Grayson’s stance was uncertain, and my options were shrinking fast.

Everything was starting to look hopeless.

Third Person POV

Grayson stormed out of the hotel, anger radiating from him like fire.

A silver car waited by the curb. Isla quickly stepped out, rushing toward him.

“So? Did you see Aria?” she asked, sounding almost eager.

Grayson didn’t answer. He walked past her, leaned against the car door, and pulled out a cigarette. Lighting it up, he took a long drag, shadows clouding his sharp features.

Isla followed him persistently. “She was with Zane, wasn’t she? What were they doing when you walked in?”

Grayson stared into the darkness, silent for a moment. Then he said coldly, “They were holding hands. He was about to kiss her….And Zane said he just proposed to her.”

“WHAT?!”

Isla’s voice shot up. Her face twisted with rage and jealousy. “God can you believe her? She knows you won’t marry her, so she’s just gonna run off to another rich guy. And what does that make you, huh? Her stepping stone? If it weren’t for you, she’d still be rotting in that poor, miserable shithole she came from. How can you just let her betray you like this?”

Grayson didn’t respond. His face only grew colder.

“So where are they now? Did you catch them? Are you going to punish them?” Isla pressed impatiently.

“She said she needs some space,” he said flatly, exhaling smoke.

“And you let her?” Isla cried. “She doesn’t need space, Grayson, she’s stalling for time! Give it a few days, and you’ll find out she ran off with that Zane Elrod. And when that happens, you’ll be the biggest joke in the world

“Enough!” Grayson suddenly roared, slamming his fist against the car window.

The glass cracked from the brutal force. Isla flinched, fear flickering in her eyes. She swallowed hard, lowering her voice. “I’m only looking out for you, Grayson. I’m the one who cares about you the most.”

His jaw tightened. For a long moment, he said nothing. Then his voice came out dark and low. “Then tell me, Isla–what do you think I should do?”

“Bring them back,” Isla hissed. “Drag them both here. A woman like Aria Collins isn’t worthy of your love. You should whip her and exile her. Let the world see what happens when someone betrays you.”

Grayson turned his head toward her and stared at her. His gaze was so cold it made her blood run dry.

“I’ll ask you one last time, Isla. Had you ever hurt Aria?” he asked.

Her hands clenched behind her back nervously, but she kept her face calm, forcing a wounded expression. “O–Of course not. We’ve known each other for so many years, Grayson. You know very well what kind of person I am. I’d never do something like that.”

“Sometimes,” he said slowly, crushing his cigarette under his boot, “I wonder if I’ve been blinded by our old memories–trusted you too much.”

His voice dropped even colder:

“That vote I gave up earlier… was the last thing I’ll ever do for you. You’d better be innocent, Isla. Because if I find out you’re not… I won’t hesitate to kill you.”
