Chapter 163
(Scarlett’s POV)

The coffee shop Virginia suggested is nearly empty when I arrive. Just a barista wiping down tables and an older couple in the corner sharing a slice of cake.
I check my phone. 8:03 PM. Virginia’s late.
Part of me wonders if she’ll show up at all. Our relationship has been nothing but hurtful and resentful. And after his accident, Jasper has been glued to me. I wouldn’t put it past her to mess with me in an act of revenge.
Sighing, I’m about to leave when the door opens, and she walks in.
She looks awful. Dark circles under her eyes, her skin pale, her hands trembling as she orders something from the counter. When she finally sits down across from me, I notice she’s lost weight. Her clothes hang loose on her frame.
“Thank you for coming,” she says quietly.
Now that’s new.
“You said it was important.”
“It is.” She wraps her hands around her coffee cup like she’s trying to draw warmth from it. “It’s about Jasper.”
“You told me that on the phone. Now what about Jasper?”
Virginia looks down at her cup, then back up at me. There’s something in her eyes I can’t quite read. Guilt, maybe. Or doubt.
When she finally speaks, what she says threatens to collapse my sanity.
“He’s been lying to you. His memories…He got them back days ago, Scarlett. He remembers everything. He’s been pretending. Playing you. Making you think he still doesn’t remember so you’ll stay close to him.”
“No.” I shake my head. “That’s not possible. The doctors said-”
“The doctors don’t know. He’s been lying to them too.”
My hands start shaking. I press them flat against the table.
“You’re lying.”

“Oh, please. Don’t we both know why?” I sneer, giving her a cold look. “There’s no method, no limit you wouldn’t cross to get Jasper.”
She’s been sowing discord between me and him since she entered our lives. Her schemes
and manipulations…I’m no stranger to them.
Virginia shakes her head. “I admit. I love Jasper. I can do anything to get him. But it’s easy to confirm if I’m lying or not. Just go and ask him.”
I stare at her, searching for the lie. The manipulation. The angle.
But all I see is exhaustion. And maybe, just maybe, something like remorse.
“I have to go.” I stand up so fast my chair scrapes against the floor.
“Scarlett-”
“As you said, I’ll speak to Jasper and prove that you’re lying. Now.”
I storm out of the coffee shop, shaking, as I get in my car.
The drive to the hospital is a blur. My mind races through every interaction, every conversation, every tender moment I shared with Jasper the past few days.
Was it all fake? All a performance?
Did he really remember everything while I was falling apart trying to protect him from
overhearing talks of our past?
Once at the hospital, I don’t bother finding a proper spot to park, just pull into the first space I see and run for the elevator.
Third floor. Room 314.
The hallway stretches endlessly in front of me. My heels click against the linoleum, each step echoing like a countdown.
His door is closed. I don’t knock. Just push it open and stride in.
Jasper’s sitting up in bed, laptop open in front of him. He looks up when I enter, his face brightening.
“Letty. I wasn’t expecting-”
“Is it true?”

“Your memory.” I step closer, my voice shaking. “Did you get it back? Have you been lying to me this whole time?”
He goes very still. His hands freeze on the keyboard.
The silence is answer enough.
“Oh my God.” I press my hand to my mouth. “Oh my God, you did. You remembered everything and you didn’t say anything. Have you really been playing me this entire time?”
“Scarlett, let me explain-”
“When?” The word comes out harsh. “When did you get it back?”
He closes the laptop slowly. “Three days ago.”
Three days. He’s been lying to me for three days. My eyes grow hazy, and I remember that day when Blair called me, when he collapsed.
No wonder his gaze had felt strange. When I walked into that room, worried and concerned for his health, he’d already regained his memory. He already remembered everything, yet played me like a fool.
“You bastard.” The word tastes like ash. “You lying bastard.”
“Letty…please…”
