Chapter 1 Seven years after sealing the mate bond, every time I was about to sleep with my Alpha mate, I had to spend the whole night kneeling before Skylar’s photo in prayer.
Mark claimed it was my way of atoning for Skylar.
When Luna Susan once again pressured me to be intimate with him, I overheard his friends joking around.
“Let me count how many times Haley has gone through IVF this year. She’s really going all out to have a child.”
“She probably doesn’t even know that she can never conceive an Alpha’s child, right?”
Mark snickered.
“After every time, I give her a glass of milk. After years on birth control, getting pregnant would be nothing short of a miracle.”
“Everything she’s endured with IVF these years is just punishment for forcing Skylar away.”
I forced a bitter smile and sent the recording to Alpha Frank, his father.
“I can’t give the bloodmoon pack an heir. Could you let me go?”
The countless needle marks on my arm flared up with a fine, piercing pain.
For years, in the hope of giving the pack an heir, I had undergone countless IVF treatments and taken countless medications. It meanwhile destroyed my own body in the process.
Everyone said the problem was with me.
I blamed myself, tolerating Mark’s temperament endlessly, never realizing the root cause was that glass of milk he had handed me.
I stood frozen, stiff as a statue, while the mocking voices continued in the room.
“Alpha, you really are something. Haley is so cold and aloof, but in front of you, she’s like a dog being ordered around. You must be very harmonious in bed, huh?”
Mark raised an eyebrow.
“She’s the one begging me to sleep with her. I’m just practicing. Skylar’s about to return to the South, what if I hurt her?”
“She’s not like Haley, that omega nobody. No matter how much she’s messed with, she’s fine. Skylar is delicate.”
At the mention of Skylar, the brief flash of tenderness on Mark’s face felt like a needle piercing my eyes.
Every word he spoke was like a slap across my face.
I gritted my teeth, swallowing the metallic taste in my mouth.
Mark sneered, indifferent.
“Didn’t she deserve it? She should’ve thought of this outcome when she forced Skylar away!”
“I still think my mom went easy on her!”
The casual cruelty in his voice struck me like a sudden blow.
So, he knew everything. He knew exactly how much I had suffered over the years, all because I couldn’t get pregnant. He knew everything!
It was laughable that I had been afraid he might worry, swallowing all my grievances alone and pretending everything was fine.
Now that I thought about it, he must have enjoyed seeing me tortured for all these years!
I closed my eyes, and the last thread of my heart snapped.
Several new messages popped up on my phone. They were from Alpha Frank.
[We are sorry. Three days from now, I will arrange for you to leave.]
