Chapter 58
Chapter 58
Olivia
As I sit by Samuel as he sleeps, I feel nothing but confusion and curiosity. He is like a new puzzle for me to solve especially with his condition being how it is. I have so many questions I want to ask but I also have to be respectful. Prying into a patient’s business is always risky especially when they want to gain their trust.
I look ahead and see Hazel sitting by Samuel’s side and holding his hand. The worry in her eyes only reminds me of her feelings towards him. She won’t be able to be his doctor with those feelings clouding her judgment but she will be a good friend to him at least.
“No need to worry, Hazel,” I tell her. Her blue eyes meet mine. Was she crying before sitting by Samuel again? “He’s just passed out from shock. He’s not ill or anything like that.” I try to soothe her worries but I can see it’s not helping in the slightest.
“I’ll keep worrying until I know he’s safe and happy.” Hazel rubs her eyes and watches him. “… He was struggling in his sleep earlier. Crying out in pain and gasping for air.” She looks back at me. “Those are symptoms of… a cheating mate, right? I think that’s what you said. He started clawing at his neck too… it was hard to get him to stop too.”
My heart sinks and I look at Samuel sadly. If what Hazel says is true, then it’s no wonder he hasn’t woken up yet. Faintly I can see scratching all over Samuel’s neck but I also see some on Hazel’s hands. “Poor thing…” I murmur then look over to Hazel again. “You… didn’t get any sleep last night, did
you?”
Hazel shakes her head. “How could I? Samuel is unconscious and trying to hurt himself.” She takes his hand again. “I’m just… happy he isn’t awake for it.” So am I honestly. I have no idea what sort of pain they go through as I’ve never experienced it myself. All I can do is try and ease their pain and heartache.
I let out a long sigh. “Hazel, you’re no good to anyone exhausted like this. I told you before that you need to make sure you sleep properly. You never know when you’ll need to make late–night or early–morning calls too.” I shake my head. “Go and get some sleep. I mean it, Hazel. That’s an order as your
teacher.”
Hazel bites her lip and looks down at Samuel again. I know she doesn’t want to leave him but neither did Luna Daisy and I made her go as well to give us space. “Yes… I will. I’m sorry, teacher Olivia.” She stands up and dips her head. Her hands tremble but she turns around. “Please… call me when he wakes
up.” With that, she walks away.
Poor girl. I hope one day she can find true happiness and purpose in life just as I did. I shake my hand and lean back into the chair I’m sitting in. Being a healer is a lonely place in the pack. Duty comes before everything because, without a pack doctor, the pack will fall apart and die out so quickly.
I chose this life without understanding it as a young teenager but in the end, everything worked out. This is where I belong. That being said, I let my mind wander to the past. Do I have regrets? Of course I do but I’m sure everyone does. I sacrificed a lot to get where I am today even love but it was the right thing for me to do. Short–term misery is better than a lifetime of it.
I’m taken out of my thoughts when I hear a groan. I sit up straight and see Samuel sit up holding his head and looking groggy. I relax feeling relieved that I was right and clear my throat. “Welcome back, Samuel.” He jumps a little and looks at me with a wary expression. “Are you hurting anywhere?”
Samuel hesitates as he looks around the room. “N–no… a headache but… that’s it.” He says rubbing his head. “What…?” His expression changes and his face pales as he touches his stomach. It’s all coming back to him and that panic returns. “A–am I…?”
I offer a small, sympathetic smile and nod making him pale even more. “Yes, Samuel. You’re pregnant… if you’re up for it, I have many questions I’d like to ask you… so I can understand and better treat you in the future.”
Samuel swallows hard and holds himself but nods as if permitting me to speak. I clear my throat. “Now male pregnancy can occur but it’s usually just with Omegas being with a wolf that’s Gamma and above. You, however… are born as a Beta I assume. Is that what your wolf told you?” He gives me another nod. “Is there anything that could explain this better?”
I’m hoping there is because male pregnancy is highly dangerous and lethal for the Omega involved. For one, their womb is weak making it very likely that they’ll suffer many miscarriages. Then the pup growing up can cause great agony for their mother. Plus cutting the pups out is the only option and it can be very risky because of their organs gerting in the way. It’s a difficult situation for everyone involved and I for one do not have any experience with
Samuel looks at his trembling hands. “… I was born both genders.” He says carefully. “A hermaphrodite I believe is what it’s called? Anyway… only Freda,

the old Omega who took care of me, knew about it. The other pack members knew me as an abandoned baby boy so I was raised as one too freda. wanted me to have the freedom to choose. In the end, though I always felt like a boy.” He runs his hands through his hair and closes his eye, Udinys
Relief rushes through me. That makes life so much easier for me. I don’t have to worry about the fatality rate as much. “I know this will sound strange to you but I’m honestly happy that’s what you are, Samuel.” I sigh softly. “It’s easy for me to treat you going forward. I assume your mate…” I stop myself but
it’s too late.
Samuel’s eyes dull and he looks down. “Heh… yeah… he knows alright. I don’t know why… I went through a heat cycle… I’ve never had one before. But let’s just say… he used every hole he could to make it go away.” He shakes his head and looks depressed. “… He’s going to reject me… I just know it… he even cheated on me…”
I swallow hard. Of course, he’d know what that dream and feeling was. Even if he didn’t, his wolf would be so depressed and he’d tell him what it was right away. “I’m sorry, Samuel…” I say honestly. He shakes his head again. “Do you know what…” I don’t get to finish my sentence as I hear a knock on the door. I shoot Samuel an apologetic look. “I’ll be right back.”
As I stand, I jump at the sudden mind link message. ‘Zoey’s awake! Come quickly!‘ It’s Peter who calls for me. ‘Something’s wrong so please hurry!‘ His voice sounds very concerned but not overly either.
When I make it to the door, Daisy greets me. An overwhelmed look is on her face but it isn’t a happy one. Hazel comes downstairs her eyes wide. Peter must have sent her the same message. “Hazel, stay with Samuel. He just woke up.” I grab my bag and walk with Daisy.
Her anxious energy makes sense. This is Daisy’s best shot at getting Skylar back in one piece. However, with that expression on her face, something must be wrong. I just hope that this all has a happy ending for both Daisy and Skylar.
