The Bride of Endless Deaths novel Chapter 10

Chapter 10

He chose Sierra Prescott over me countless times-how could he not have realized his own feelings?

“Julian Blake, if you didn’t love Sierra, you wouldn’t have left me behind without a second thought when we were kidnapped.”

“I didn’t die, but that’s no excuse for you to hurt me.”

Julian’s face was etched with guilt, tears streaming down as he sobbed like a child, his words stumbling over apologies. “I’m so sorry, Evelyn. I hurt you. Please, can’t you give me one more chance?”

“We’re back in the real world now. We’re just ordinary people. We could start over.

I shook my head. “Julian, I can’t give you another chance. I don’t love you anymore.”

His face turned ashen, lips trembling uncontrollably. “Evelyn, how could you not love me anymore?”

“Because when I look at you, I don’t even feel anything anymore. I don’t even hate you.”

My heart felt oddly at peace, my thoughts drifting to the simpler things-like what my mom would make for

dinner tonight. If I didn’t even hate Julian, how could I possibly find love for him?

Julian fell silent, his shoulders slumping as he buried his face in his hands. “I understand, Evelyn.”

He paused, then asked, “Who’s that guy out there?”

I glanced at Graham Sterling, who was across the street picking out flowers. “He’s my childhood friend. And

maybe, in the future, my boyfriend.”

Graham’s affection was impossible to miss, and I couldn’t help but notice it.

Julian broke down completely, his cries turning hysterical, though he didn’t dare beg for forgiveness again.

I stood and left the coffee shop.

As I stepped outside, Graham handed me a bouquet of lilies. I smiled, taking them. “After all these years, you

still remember I prefer lilies over roses.”

“That’s not all,” he said with a grin, falling into step beside me. “I remember you love ribs and meatloaf, your favorite fruits are watermelon and grapes, and you always cut the crusts off your sandwiches…”

His chatter was like a time machine, pulling me back to childhood. I realized I’d always been this happy.

Thank God I came back.

I thought rejecting Julian would make him leave town. Instead, he started trailing me every day, watching from a distance.

I paid him no mind-until one day, crossing the street, a car barreled toward me. Julian lunged, shoving me out of the way. He was thrown ten meters, landing in a pool of blood.

The crowd swarmed around him. He reached out toward me, his mouth moving silently, forming the words

I’m sorry.

I didn’t approach. I stood by the roadside, watching quietly.

They said he lost too much blood and died in the ambulance.

I asked my Arcane Pact, “If he’s dead, can he return to the Contracted Realm?”

The Arcane Pact shook its head. “He forcibly left the Contracted Realm to return to the real world. If he dies here, he’s gone for good.”

From that moment on, neither the real world nor the Contracted Realm bore any trace of Julian Blake.

Three years later, a virus swept through the city, sparking widespread panic.

I developed a cure in record time, averting the crisis.

During an interview, everyone asked how I’d created the antidote so quickly. I smiled and said, “Because I’ve always held a deep respect for life.”

In the Contracted Realm, I’d been preparing for a real-world virus outbreak. My efforts hadn’t been in vain.

Another reporter piped up. “Dr. Hart, do you have a boyfriend?”

I shook my head. “No boyfriend, but…”

My eyes found Graham Sterling in the crowd, cradling our child, smiling up at me. “I have a husband now, and a child. I’m really happy.”

And I believed, with all my heart, that I would stay happy forever.
