Chapter 9
My father frowned but, after seeing the resolve in my eyes, motioned for the soldiers to leave the room.
Ethan’s eyes lit up immediately. He rushed to my bedside and grabbed my hand.
“Baby! I knew you still cared about me!”
His voice was desperate, ingratiating. “It was all Vanessa-that conniving woman. She flaunted her status
as the Blake Corporation heiress and threatened to pull her investment if I didn’t play along.”
I yanked my hand back, my voice trembling with rage.
“Ethan, are you even a man? I hid my family background and built a life with you from nothing. I lived in rentals and ate instant noodles with you-and this is how you repay me?”
He fell to his knees, tears and snot streaming down his face.
“I was out of my mind! Vanessa’s the Blake family’s only daughter-she said if I kept her happy, she’d help
take the company public. I was thinking of our future!”
“Our future?”
I let out a cold, humorless laugh, pointing to the empty bassinet in the corner. “And what about my child’s
future?”
The blood drained from his face. His eyes went wide. “The baby… she’s really gone?” His voice shook
uncontrollably.
I stared at him as if he were a stranger.
“It’s fine!” he blurted suddenly, scrambling closer on his knees. “We can have more kids-however many
you want, I promise!”
“Enough.”
“You don’t deserve it, Ethan.”
I took a deep breath. “We’re getting a divorce.”
It was as if lightning had struck him. His expression shifted from shock to panic.
“No! Baby, you can’t! I know I was wrong
“Get out.”
I pressed the call button on my bed. “I don’t want to see you again.”
The door opened, and my father walked in with two soldiers.

Ethan tried to speak but was dragged out before he could get another word in.
My father closed the door and sat beside my bed. “Sweetheart, how do you want to handle this?”
I stared out the window, my voice steady-eerily so. “Since Ethan cares most about his company…”
I turned my gaze to him, eyes cold. “Then let’s take away what he values most.”
