Chapter 179

His hand slid up to cup my breast through my blouse, thumb circling my nipple until it hardened beneath the fabric. I arched into his touch, my body responding to him with embarrassing eagerness.
His mouth trailed a burning path of kisses along my collarbone, his lips lingering at the sensitive hollow of my throat where my pulse hammered wildly.
“Do you know what I want to do to you right now?” he whispered, his breath hot against my ear.
“Show me,” I challenged, surprising myself with my boldness.
The corner of his mouth quirked up in that devastating half-smile that made my insides melt. “Not here. Not when I want to take my time with you.”
His cock pressed hard against me as he pulled me close for another searing kiss. I rolled my hips against him, drawing a groan from deep in his throat.
“Keep that up, and I’ll forget my good intentions,” he warned.
“Maybe that’s what I want,” I teased, biting his lower lip gently.
“Careful what you wish for,” he growled, pressing me harder against the railing.
We kissed for what felt like hours, his hands exploring my body while mine mapped the hard planes of his chest and back. Eventually, reluctantly, he pulled away, resting his forehead against mine as we both caught our breath.
“We should stop,” he said, not sounding convinced.
“Probably,” I agreed, making no move to release him.
We stayed that way for a moment, our breathing gradually slowing. Alexander brushed a strand of hair from my face, his touch unexpectedly tender.
“Look at the view,” he said softly, turning me in his arms so my back pressed against his chest.
The city sprawled before us, a sea of twinkling lights under a canopy of stars. With his arms wrapped around my waist, his chin resting on my shoulder, I felt strangely at peace despite the chaos of my racing heart.
“It’s beautiful,” I whispered.
“Yes,” he agreed, but when I glanced back, he looked at me, not the view.
We stood there for several long minutes, neither of us speaking, just absorbing the moment. His arms tightened around me, and I leaned back against him, feeling oddly safe.
“Ready to go?” he finally asked, his lips brushing my ear.

I nodded, reluctant to leave this magical spot but curious about what would happen next.

Alexander took my hand as we walked back along the winding path to the restaurant. The building glowed with warm light, looking like something out of a fairytale perched on the hillside.
“Thank you for the late-night dinner,” I said as we approached his car. “It was incredible.”
“The night doesn’t have to end yet,” he suggested, opening my door.
“What did you have in mind?” I asked, sliding into the passenger seat.
He leaned down, eyes glittering in the moonlight. “I thought we might drive along the coast. There’s something about the ocean at night.”
“I’d like that.”
Alexander drove us down winding roads until we reached the Pacific Coast Highway. The windows were down, and cool ocean air whipped through the car as we cruised along the deserted road. The moonlight cast a silver path across the black water.
“Do you ever just drive?” I asked, watching his profile. “No destination in mind?”
“Not often enough,” he admitted. “I’m usually too focused on getting from point A to point B as efficiently as possible.”
“That sounds very Alexander Carter of you.”
He laughed, a rich, genuine sound. “And what does that mean exactly?”
“Efficient. Purposeful. Always with a plan.”
“You make me sound boring.”
“Not boring,” I corrected. “Just…contained.”
Alexander glanced at me, eyebrow raised. “And you think you know me that well already?”
“Am I wrong?”
His fingers tapped thoughtfully on the steering wheel. “No,” he conceded. “But there’s more to me than just that.”
“I’m counting on it.”
We drove in comfortable silence for a while, the rhythmic sound of waves crashing against the shoreline filling the car. I kicked off my heels, tucking my feet under me on the seat.
“Comfortable?” Alexander asked, amusement coloring his voice.
“Very. Your car smells like you.”

I turned to study him, breathing deeply. “Expensive. Like cedar and something spicy. And underneath, just…you.”
His mouth curved into a smile. “That’s quite the analysis.”
“I’m observant.”
“What else have you observed about me?”
I tilted my head, considering him. “You’re protective. Controlled. You like being in charge.”
“All true.” He tapped his fingers on the steering wheel. “You’re perceptive. What else have you observed about me?”
