The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan) novel Chapter 723

August's whole body started to shake, lost for words. He couldn't get a single word out for the longest time.

Finally, after what felt like forever, he managed to ask, "So, Mr. Evans, do you know where the real Alana is?"

Ronan looked as cautious as a man guarding his mother-in-law from harm. "Uh, what's your relationship with her?"

"I'm... I'm..." August's eyes filled with tears. "I'm August. Have you heard of me? Thirty years ago, Alana and I were movie stars. We were a real couple... Her child, she's mine."

Ronan's eyes widened, as if he was hearing this for the first time. "You're saying Cordelia is your daughter?"

"Cordelia? Your wife?" August asked, nodding solemnly.

"Let's go. We'll head to Millstone College to find her."

"Alana's at Millstone College?" August's heart raced. He hadn't expected Alana to be there. Only after learning the truth did he realize he hadn't seen her since she left for England pregnant all those years ago. All he'd seen was a shell that looked like her.

A gentle breeze blew as Ronan finally found an excuse to visit Cordelia's home.

He knocked on the door, and Whitney answered.

"Mr. Evans," she said, surprised.

"Yeah, this is August... he's, well, he's Cordelia's dad," Ronan explained.

"Jinping," August was just as emotional. Ronan had said Alana's mind wasn't what it used to be, but August felt that as long as she remembered him, that was all that mattered.

They moved closer, not embracing like young lovers, but August took Alana's hand, studying her face. It wasn't as radiant as it had been in their youth, but her presence was all that mattered to him.

Most people, like the fake Alana, thought he had fallen for her beauty alone, but that wasn't true.

August held Alana in his arms, and she smiled, her lips parting slightly – a rare and precious smile. Even when she saw Cordelia, she hadn't smiled like this. Her clearest memories, her most cherished youthful days, were spent with August. She had the deepest memories and the rawest emotions for him. By the time Cordelia came into her life, her mind was no longer sharp. After Cordelia was sent away, Alana's memories of her weren't as vivid, just like Cordelia's distant relationship with Shelley compared to her closeness with Alana.

After thirty years, they were finally together again.
