Ronan just gave a knowing smile.
After dinner, Ronan offered to drive Cordelia and Callum back to school.
"I've got my own ride, it's parked across the street," Cordelia replied coldly. Even though Callum gave her hand a reassuring squeeze, it didn’t change her frosty demeanor.
Once Ronan got into his car, he looked at Cordelia holding Callum's hand and said from the driver's seat, "Don't blame me."
Cordelia picked up the pace, dragging Callum along. She couldn't believe Ronan had the nerve to say that. Why shouldn't she blame him? Wasn’t he the one who had led things to this point, step by step?
As soon as Cordelia left, Sienna headed over to August's place.
She had planned to visit August for dinner anyway, but as she turned into the alley, she saw Cordelia's car drive by. Sienna thought she was having bad luck and waited a long time until both Cordelia and Ronan's cars had gone. Then, she stealthily carried a large bag of stuff over to August's house.
Sienna was going through a particularly rough patch lately, actually, she was in a pretty bad state.
Sienna shot a message to Samantha: "You little devil, is this your way of getting back at me? You've killed someone and fled the country, leaving me with this mess. I must've been a sinner in a past life to have a daughter like you. You're nothing but trouble."
Samantha didn’t respond to the message, and when Sienna called, it went straight to voicemail. Her daughter had vanished into thin air, hiding God knows where.
Since Grant was coming back for his money, Sienna racked her brain for a solution. Then one day, she spotted August and Alana on the street, apparently shopping for something. She overheard whispers nearby: "Isn't that the silver screen couple from thirty years ago, August and Alana? Just look at how well they've aged, nothing like us ordinary folks."
The comment was made offhandedly, but Sienna listened with intent. She thought to herself: Aren't they Cordelia's biological parents? Her dad looks wealthy. With Grant's deadline looming and the threat of having to sell her house, Sienna knew that Samantha and Cordelia were at odds, and the chances were slim that they would help her. But desperate times call for desperate measures. Maybe Cordelia's mom would be naive enough to help, hoping that her wealthy dad wouldn't know about Samantha's situation. To them, a few tens of thousands might be like a couple of hundred bucks to ordinary people.
