The officer clicked away at his computer, double-checking the records. After a moment, he looked up at Reese, a hint of sympathy in his eyes. Sure enough, the marriage between Reese and Sebastian Ratcliff was real. Who would’ve guessed Mr. Ratcliff actually tied the knot?
But from everything he’d seen, Sebastian didn’t seem to like the woman in front of him. Maybe he even hated her. Why else would he go out of his way to clear things up on Ratcliff Global’s official account, or call the cops on Mrs. Ratcliff’s friend?
Of course, all this rich family drama was way above his pay grade.
“It’s all confirmed, Mrs. Ratcliff,” the officer said, handing Reese her ID back. “Since Millie didn’t spread any false rumors, we can process her release.”
“She’s not going anywhere.”
The glass doors swung open. Sebastian walked in, lawyer at his side.
The lawyer paused for a split second when he saw Reese, then brushed right past her to talk to the officer. “Officer, my client reported Millie because she posted their marriage certificate online without his permission. That’s a violation of his privacy and image rights. We hope you’ll take this seriously.”
Reese’s words tumbled out before she could stop them. “I told her to do it. I’m part of this too. I gave her my consent.”
“You gave her your consent?” Sebastian turned to Reese, his eyes cold. “Couldn’t wait to show off your title, huh?
“Reese, don’t forget what we agreed on. This marriage was supposed to be a secret. Now look at the mess you’ve made. How do you think this makes Sofia look?
“She already got kicked out of Clever Cloud because of you. Are you gonna ruining her reputation too?”
Sofia followed Sebastian in, a satisfied smirk on her lips as she slipped her arm through his. “Sebastian, I have you, and nothing anyone else does can touch me,” she said softly, her eyes sliding over Reese with blatant contempt.
Sometimes Sofia almost felt sorry for Reese. Even last night at the conference, when Dominic exposed that she’d stolen Reese’s work, Sebastian still found a way to protect her, making sure Sofia came out clean.
Sofia always knew Reese would eventually cause a scene, but she never thought it would be something this dumb.
