The Doormat Wife’s Ultimate Glow-Up novel Chapter 75

Every time Reese visited the old house, she braced herself for Jane’s icy attitude, but over the years, things had mellowed out between them—at least, she thought they had. She never expected Jane to come at her like this today.

“Cat got your tongue?” Jane’s eyes swept over Reese, finally settling on her belly.

“Feeling sorry for yourself again? Or do you just think I can’t touch you anymore?”

Jane’s voice dripped with sarcasm as she continued, “Back then, you drugged Sebastian, slept with him, and got yourself pregnant just to force him to marry you. Now you’re talking about divorce. What’s your plan—hoping the old man’s obsession with heirs will score you some shares, so you win either way?”

She didn’t even bother lowering her voice. Robbie was right there, and Reese could feel the shame burn through her. “Mom…”

“Grandma, is that true?” Robbie’s tears stopped instantly. He looked up at Reese, pure shock in his eyes.

So that’s how Mom got into the Ratcliff family?

No wonder Dad always seemed so distant. No wonder he grew up stuck in this old house, barely seeing Mom. No wonder, when he cried as a little kid, no one let Mom take him home, and Dad would rather stay at the office than come back. He used to watch other kids with their parents and wish for hugs when he fell down, used to think maybe if he behaved better, Dad would love him too.

Turns out, it was never his fault. Everything was just wrong from the beginning.

Jane looked at Robbie, realizing she’d gone too far, but she couldn’t find a single word to explain.

Robbie squirmed out of her arms, pointed straight at Reese, his little body shaking with anger. “You don’t deserve to be my mom!”

His voice cracked with both tears and accusation. Jane hugged him tightly, her own eyes stinging. She whispered, “That’s right, honey. She doesn’t. We don’t need her, Robbie. It’s okay.”

Reese’s heart twisted seeing her son like this. She tried to explain, “Robbie, it’s not what you think. Back then—”

“What, then?” Jane cut her off, voice sharp. “Are you going to say Sebastian begged you to marry him?
