The Ex-Wife's Burning Elegance novel Chapter 1273

"I'm just accompanying him to an appointment. You call that treating him well?" Stella retorted. "Mr. Lerman, it seems no one has ever been kind to you. You don't even know what kindness looks like."

Leonard's hawk-like eyes bored into her, scrutinizing her expression, trying to determine if she knew Joshua's true identity. He scoffed. "Just an appointment? As I recall, that bodyguard of yours caused you quite a bit of trouble recently. You even offended the Gibson family for him. Stella, Joshua killed the Gibsons' only son, and you chose to protect him. The Gibsons won't let this go. You'll live to regret that decision."

"I won't," Stella said firmly.

"Stubborn till the end," Leonard sneered.

"The moment I made my choice, I accepted all the consequences. I will never regret it." She looked at his pale, weakened face and suddenly asked, "You did all this for Aurora and now you're facing the backlash. Do you regret it?"

Leonard's face was a mask. "Even if I could do it all over again, I'd make the same choice."

"Then why would you think I'd have any regrets?" Stella countered.

"Stella, I'm just now realizing how adorably naive you are," Leonard said. "You stand there so boldly telling me you have no regrets, but do you even know what kind of person Joshua really is?"

Stella cut him off before he could continue. "I'll find out for myself who he is. I don't need an outsider to tell me."

She didn't elaborate, but her unwavering trust and protectiveness of Joshua were unmistakable.

Leonard eyed her from the bed. "Are you just going to stand there in the doorway? What, are you afraid to come in? Scared a cripple like me might harm you?"
