Scarlett Jennings did not have a deep understanding of the Dreamy Tapirus and was unsure of how to remove its main body from Layla Xalvadora.
But regardless, she had to try first.
After taking Layla out of the barrier, Scarlett set up a simple barrier for her again. She then raised her Peach Wood Sword, drawing a Spirit Talisman in the void with it.
"Golden mouth declares, jade script manages, Three Realms Netherworld, all laws are revealed, spirits are extremely agile, invisible..."
While Scarlett chanted, she formed a seal with one hand and then quietly gave an order,
"Expel!"
This was the God Sending Talisman that had been used to drive a subsystem out from within a possessing doll.
Although the Dreamy Tapirus was not a deity, Scarlett felt the logic was similar.
Considering that the Dreamy Tapirus had absorbed quite a bit of the power enhanced by fortune, Scarlett added a touch of Golden Light the moment the talisman was completed.
The Void Spirit Talisman before her gradually illuminated with layers of Golden Light.
The Golden Light fell upon Layla, causing her body to writhe and struggle convulsively.
Scarlett wanted to intensify her efforts to force out the Dreamy Tapirus, but realized that if she continued, Layla’s soul and body would crumble from the strain before she could extract it.
Scarlett had no choice but to pull back.
Samuel Chalmers said,
"Once the main body of a Dreamy Tapirus possesses a host, it merges with the host’s aura. After so many days, it is likely too deeply fused with Layla’s soul to be easily separated."
Scarlett’s eyes darkened slightly as she looked at Samuel and said,
"It sounds a bit like the current situation with the system."
Previously, she had tried to help the system transfer to another host, but failed because the system’s consciousness had overly merged with the turtle itself, hadn’t it?
With this thought, an idea dawned on Scarlett.
She asked Sophie Harper to fetch some items for her from the room and quickly set up an array around Layla’s body.
Fortunately, she had previously promised to find a way to transfer the system back, and although the research was incomplete, she had some inklings.
This was originally intended for the system, but now she could try it on Layla.
Feeling confident in her direction, but remembering the Dreamy Tapirus might have absorbed substantial fortune through dreams, she muttered,
"If only there were some external force that could directly enter the dream and push it out."
With the Dreamy Tapirus’s current power, neither Sophie nor the baby spirit were its match. Scarlett hesitated over whether to summon the Yin Mountain Ghost King.
While pondering this, she suddenly heard footsteps coming from the stairs.
Her expression tensed as she instinctively prepared for battle with Gregory Xander.
Both of them assumed a stance ready to engage the enemy. Samuel Chalmers shared their wariness but soon relaxed his expression as if sensing something.
In the next second, someone carefully emerged from the top of the staircase.
Holding something gingerly, they craned their neck and asked,
"Scarlett Jennings, is that you?" 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Scarlett was taken aback and, upon closer inspection, realized that it was Adam Jennings, who was supposed to be at school.
Upon seeing these people, Adam wore a relieved expression as if seeing family and quickly approached while holding what he carried.
"Grandpa! Brother Donovan! Are you all okay?!"
As he drew closer, Scarlett noticed that he was holding a piece of Benedict Jade.
The jade was enveloped in Spiritual Energy; presumably, Benedict Beast within it had protected Adam from the Dreamy Tapirus’s influence on his journey.
Wait, Benedict Beast.
Like grasping a revelation, Scarlett’s hazel eyes fixated on the Benedict Jade, polished and translucent from Adam’s care.
Adam did not notice Scarlett’s gaze as he surveyed the basement.
Seeing that Michael Jennings and Ismeria Jennings, along with many of his university classmates, were in a deep sleep, his heart clenched slightly.
But, seeing Kingston Jennings awake brought him some quiet relief.
After the incident in Sea City, Adam immediately tried to contact home. The city’s network was disrupted, and around him, students succumbed to unconsciousness. Troubled by this disquiet, he decided to return home.
Noticing that everyone around him had fallen, yet he remained unaffected, he recalled how his roommate had once summoned a Ghost Immortal, making him realize the Benedict Jade protected him, fostering confidence. He drove back home in haste with the jade.
