The Lycan King and his Dark Temptation (Valeria) novel Chapter 349

THERON

Her body twisted under my muscles, and I had to pull my muzzle back so I wouldn’t get a nasty bite from those fierce jaws.

"GET A GRIP, DAMN IT!"

My roar made her go rigid.

Through the temporary mark I knew perfectly well she could hear me even if she wasn’t my race.

Her erratic pupils locked onto my wolven ones.

"I’m going to let you go and we’re going to talk, but if you try to run again… know that my patience has a limit."

My rough hand dropped to give her lioness ass a good shake.

She growled, pissed, but held back from attacking.

I lowered her slowly and, the second I loosened my grip, she slipped free with a quick jump back.

Her wariness toward me, that prickly state, had nothing to do with the seductive female from hours ago.

What happened here?

"Why did you leave like that? Why were you running from your mate?!" I tried to keep control, but my temper was breaking the surface.

"My… my mate? Are you really?" A feminine voice filtered into my thoughts.

If it weren’t for how tense this was, I would’ve growled with pleasure at her invading my mind.

"Of course I am, I thought… you knew that. My mark is on your nape."

"I didn’t imagine… did you really mark me?" Panic bled into her voice, making my muzzle crease.

"Are you messing with me? You were the first to recognize me in that cave. We made love and I marked you… don’t you remember?"

Suddenly that possibility hit me.

I mean, everything about her had been strange from the start.

I started analyzing things and quit acting like a brainless idiot.

The hesitation in her words didn’t sound fake.

Could it be from the hit she took to the head?

"I… remember it, but I was… confused," she admitted all of a sudden.

"You fell into a trap and hit your temple… do you remember who you are?"

I tried to take a step toward her, and she backed away.

Something clenched in my chest, but I fought the urge to touch her.

"I remember I was wandering through the forest, running, and suddenly there was a green explosion under the ground that collapsed and made me fall…"

Her sweet voice narrated it, woven with wavering memories.

Looks like she went through the same thing we did.

That corrupt magic spun out of control and must have opened the physical passage between the two continents.

"What’s your name, little one?" I had a thousand questions, but I needed to know her name.

"Zaraphina," she answered, looking at me with those honey feline eyes.

Under the trees and with dawn almost breaking, we had this odd introduction.
