“Could it be…” Jotham’s brow twitched as an unthinkable possibility crossed his mind. “The Covington family?”
“The Covingtons? The wealthiest family in Havencrest?” Winnie dashed to Griffin’s side, eyes wide with disbelief and excitement. “Griffin, is it really them?”
“That’s right.” Griffin’s tone was calm, though pride still seeped through his words. “The ones investing heavily in our company are none other than the Covington Group, the unrivaled leaders of Havencrest’s business world.”
“That’s incredible! If they’re backing us, what do we have to be afraid of? Who cares about Ramona anymore? From now on, the Holt family will finally have a name in this city!”
Winnie was so thrilled she could barely get the words out, as if landing the investment instantly put the Holts on equal footing with the Covingtons themselves.
Even Liliane, who was usually the picture of composure, couldn’t contain her excitement. “Griffin, are you sure it’s the Covingtons? How on earth did you pull off an investment from them?”
Just partnering with the Covington Group would have been a leap forward for the Holts, and now Griffin had secured their direct investment. Liliane was utterly overjoyed.
Jotham, however, seemed less surprised. He suddenly recalled running into the Covington heiress in the parking lot not long ago. She’d stayed in her car and refused to meet him, but before she left, she’d picked up his business card.
Could it be… she’s the one who invested in the Holt Group?
Griffin was clearly enjoying his wife’s and mother’s unrestrained enthusiasm. A smile he could barely suppress played at his lips.
“I met quite a few investors this time,” he said offhandedly, as if luck had simply fallen from the sky. “One of them happened to know one of the big players at Covington Group. They reviewed our core project, and without even meeting us, sent over the investment contract.”
Winnie clasped her hands in gratitude, murmuring thanks to the heavens, while Liliane repeated “Wonderful!” three times, her wrinkles smoothing out into a beaming smile. “Griffin, you handled this beautifully!”
She paused, glancing coolly at her phone.
“Now that we have the Covingtons backing us, let’s keep Ramona at arm’s length for a while. No need to indulge her temper anymore.”
With the Covingtons as an anchor, everyone felt a surge of confidence. Especially Jotham. With Brianna gone and the company’s future finally secure, what reason did Ramona have to keep opposing him?
…
After hanging up on Liliane, Ramona got ready for the day and headed to the kitchen to make breakfast.
When everything was ready, she went to call Ethan. Just as she reached for the door, it opened softly from the inside.
Ethan was already dressed, his dark shirt smooth and unwrinkled, the collar casually open to reveal sharply defined collarbones. It was a stark contrast to his usually meticulous appearance; this relaxed, intimate look gave him an unexpected kind of allure.
