"Has the groom arrived?"
The bride stood up abruptly, causing Madame Sun to miss covering her with the veil.
Madame Sun calmed herself and said to Gu Jinyu, "Miss Gu, please sit down. The groom shouldn’t be here so soon, should he? The auspicious hour hasn’t arrived yet."
Gu Jinyu glanced at the still dark sky, realized her indiscretion, and slowly sat back down on her chair, saying, "Chun Liu, go take a look."
"Yes, Miss." Chun Liu turned and went out.
She returned quickly, her face looking somewhat troubled, clenching her handkerchief and remaining silent.
Gu Jinyu had disarrayed her phoenix crown earlier, and Madame Sun was resetting it for her.
She glanced at Chun Liu and asked, "What happened? Speak up, don’t hesitate."
The sound of gongs and drums grew increasingly lively, and Chun Liu murmured something softly, which was quickly drowned out by the noise outside.
Gu Jinyu reminded herself that today was her wedding day, a day to be joyful and not to get angry.
"Speak louder," she told Chun Liu.
Chun Liu steeled herself, slightly raised her voice, and repeated, "The person who came isn’t Lord Quan... it’s... it’s the Young Marquis of Zhaodu."
Indeed, the groom has arrived, but it’s not the second groom, it’s the first groom.
Gu Jinyu suddenly clenched her fingers.
There was at least another two hours before departure. Had Xiao Hen gotten it wrong?
Surely he wasn’t foolishly arriving so early on purpose?
They had already been married in the countryside; was it necessary to pretend as if they hadn’t married?
"Miss Gu, don’t move." Madame Sun’s warning came a bit late. Gu Jinyu shook with anger, the phoenix crown snagged her hair, and she gasped in pain.
Madame Sun, having served as a wedding organizer for many years, had never encountered such a situation. Although not severe, it certainly wasn’t auspicious.
She naturally didn’t dare to say that out loud. Smiling, she said to Gu Jinyu, "Your hair bun has come loose, I’ll redo it for Miss Gu."
Gu Jinyu also realized that she had lost her composure and couldn’t blame the wedding organizer. She took a deep breath to suppress her anger and said to Chun Liu in her usual tone, "By the way, didn’t you go to call my father earlier? Hasn’t my father gotten up yet?"
Then there would be no need for much interaction with her mother’s family.
She swallowed the last sentence.
"You’re right, once I get married, I won’t have much to do with the Marquis Residence of Ding’an." Since Madame Sun had already witnessed plenty of her embarrassment, she might as well maintain a calm demeanor to save some face for herself, "After the wedding, I will be leaving the Capital City, going with Lord Quan to the fief. Lord Quan is Marquis Changping’s favorite son, so I suppose my days won’t be too bad."
Lady Gu’s close servant, Granny Zhang, was still in the room, and Gu Jinyu dared to speak like this, showing she was deliberately being provocative.
Granny Zhang smiled but said nothing.
"Madame Sun, am I beautiful?" Gu Jinyu looked at herself in the bronze mirror.
Madame Sun replied, "Beautiful, of course beautiful."
Gu Jinyu asked again, "How do I compare to my elder sister?"
Madame Sun was taken aback.
To be honest, she had met that Eldest Miss. It was last month when she went to Miao Shou Tang to get some medicine. She inadvertently heard a servant call her Eldest Miss and only then found out she was the famed adopted daughter of the Duke An Guo.
