The Sleeper's Wrath and His Wife's Strike novel Chapter 126

“Wow, how generous of you. Are you really here to help, or just waiting for a front row seat to the drama?” Lindsay shot back, her tone sharp as a blade.

Horace let out a low laugh. “If I wanted to finish you off, do you really think you’d still be standing here talking to me?”

“Obviously, I’m here to protect you. You’re tougher than I expected, but you’re too soft-hearted. That’ll get you killed one day.”

“Should I be grateful then?” Lindsay’s lips curled into a cold smile. “I’m not soft-hearted—I just have my own plans. We’re not on the same path, so you can spare me the advice.”

“I’m just looking out for you. How many times do you have to get burned before you stop playing the naïve little lamb?” Horace shook his head, exasperated. “Not everyone who sticks around is a friend, Lindsay. You need to use your head—everyone’s out for themselves these days.”

“Thanks for the warning. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going.” Lindsay tossed the words over her shoulder, then turned and climbed into her car. She started the engine and sped off, leaving Horace standing alone in the darkness.

As Lindsay’s taillights disappeared, Horace’s expression grew serious. Linzy, you have no idea—I’m the only one who truly wants what’s best for you.

Quigley Manor.

It was well past ten by the time Lindsay made it home. She assumed Yves would already be asleep, but when she stepped into the bedroom, it was empty.

Figuring he must be in his study, she headed to the bathroom for a shower.

An hour later, Yves still hadn’t returned. Lindsay finally went to check the study, but when she pushed open the door, the room was pitch black—no sign of him.

A knot of unease twisted in her stomach. It was late, and Yves still wasn’t home. Where could he be?

She pulled out her phone and dialed his number, but it just rang and rang. No answer.
