The screech of tires echoed through the intersection as a black, armored Cadillac Escalade maneuvered through the chaotic traffic, coming to a halt directly behind Evelyn's stalled Koenigsegg. The passenger door flew open before the vehicle had even stopped moving, and Kaelen Blackwood stepped out.

His face, usually a mask of cold composure, was tight with a mixture of fury and something else Evelyn couldn't quite identify. His security team, a group of imposing men in sharp suits, emerged from the Escalade and another black SUV that had pulled up behind it, quickly and efficiently creating a secure perimeter around the scene, pushing back the curious onlookers and the arriving police.

Kaelen strode towards her car, his eyes scanning the scene with a practiced, analytical gaze: the hundred-foot-long skid marks, the position of her car just inches from the bus, the shocked but unharmed driver of the bus now talking to the police.

Evelyn had already gotten out of her car and was leaning against the driver's side door, trying to calm her still-racing heart. She looked up as Kaelen approached.

"My security team was monitoring your vehicle's GPS as a standard precaution after our meeting," he said, his voice a low, controlled growl. "It went off the grid three minutes ago. We tracked your last known trajectory. I assumed the worst." His eyes raked over her, a quick, efficient scan for any injuries. Seeing none, he focused on her face, which was pale but composed. "Are you alright?"

"I'm fine," Evelyn said, her voice a little shaky, but firm. "The car's security was compromised."

"Compromised is an understatement," Kaelen said, his gaze hard as he looked at the front of her car. "This was a kill attempt. Who wants you dead?"

Evelyn didn't answer immediately. Instead, she turned and retrieved the data drive from her car. She walked over to him, her laptop from her canvas bag already in her hand. She opened it, inserted the drive, and in a few seconds, an image of the digital signature from the attack was displayed on the screen.
