Mia’s POV

Perhaps I should call her Sophie Field now.

Your day is completely ruined. This bitch is like a haunting ghost. Just when you think she’s gone for good, she shows up again.

Her smile has become incredibly venomous as she stands on that stage, basking in the applause and attention. Taylor deliberately looks directly at me, as if to provoke me. Her eyes find mine in the crowd with laser precision, and that familiar cruel satisfaction spreads across her face.

“Thank you all so much for this warm welcome,” Sophie–Taylor–says into the microphone, her voice carrying that same honey–sweet tone that used to make my skin crawl in high school. “But I have another announcement to make tonight.”

“No,” I said, my voice steadier now.

On stage, Sophie was still talking, her voice carrying over the sound system as she described meeting Jackson and falling in love. Every word was calculated, designed to paint a picture of romantic inevitability.

“Jackson swept me off my feet,” she was saying with that practiced laugh that used to charm everyone in high school. “He showed me that sometimes the heart wants what it wants, regardless of what anyone else thinks is appropriate.”

Victoria finally shut up. But she was still savoring this moment like fine wine.

“That’s bullshit,” I said, my voice cutting through the ambient noise like a blade.
