The Unwanted Wife and Her Secret Twins (Mia and Kyle) novel Chapter 308

Chapter 308 Oh my God

Mia’s POV

Oh my God,I whispered.

The teacher found Alexander trying to blow up a balloon in art class,Kyle continued. When she asked him where he got it, he said his mom told him he could play with the balloons he found at home.

The playground seemed to tilt sideways. The late afternoon sun felt too bright, too hot against my skin. My mouth went completely dry, as if I’d been chewing cotton balls for the past hour.

Oh my God. Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God.

This wasn’t happening.

My fouryearold son had brought a condom to preschool. Had tried to inflate it like a party balloon in front of his entire art class. Had probably told everyone that his mommy said he could play with the balloonshe’d found at home.

This was the worst nightmare I’d had in over four years of raising the twins. Worse than the time Alexander had announced to his entire swimming class that Mommy had hair everywhere, even on her legs.

My cheeks burned with mortification so intense I could probably have lit a campfire with my face.

Kyle’s expression seemed to carry a hint of amusement? The corner of his mouth twitched.

Are you laughing at me?I demanded. Do you think this is funny?

Mia-

No.I held up my hand, cutting him off midsentence. I’ll talk to the teacher about this. But you need to understand something very clearly. Stay away from my kids. You shouldn’t be in our lives.

I paused Did you buy this school? Because I can transfer my sons to another school. Unless you’ve bought all the schools in the city, in which case I’ll move to another state.

Kyle opened his mouth as if to respond, but I was already moving, gathering Alexander and Ethan to me like a mother hen protecting her chicks from a predator.

Come on, boys,I said, forcing my voice to sound calm and normal despite the chaos raging inside my chest. Let’s go inside and talk to Ms. Rodriguez.

I could feel Kyle’s eyes on us.

The hallways of Might Beginnings were cheerfully decorated with children’s artwork and motivational posters, their br

then bright colors and encouraging messages a stark contrast to the mortification churning in my stomach. Other parents were beginning to arrive for pickup, their voices echoing off the painted concrete walls as they chatted about soccer practices and playdates and completely normal, noncondomrelated parenting concerns,

Ms. Rodriguez was waiting for us in her classroom.

Ms. Williams, she said gently. Thank you for coming in.

Alexander and Ethan gravitated toward the art station, their hands reaching for the colorful supplies scattered across the low table.

Ms. Rodriguez,1 began, my voice barely above a whisper, I am so, so sorry about what happened today.

She held up her hand. These things happen more often than you might think, she said diplomatically. Children are naturally curious, and sometimes they find things that adults don’t realize they’ve left accessible.

But still

Ms. Williams, Alexander handled the situation very maturely when I explained that his balloonwasn’t appropriate for school. He put it away immediately and didn’t argue or become upset. Both boys are wellbehaved children from a loving home. One awkward incident doesn’t change that.

I felt tears prick at the corners of my eyes. Ms. Rodriguez’s kindness was almost harder to bear than outright judgment would have been.

How many people know?I asked.

Just myself and Mrs. Patterson, the art teacher. We’ve seen everything, and we understand that accidents happen.

I nodded.

However,Ms. Rodriguez continued gently, it might be a good idea to have a conversation with the boys about asking permission before taking things they find around the house.

Of course,I managed. Absolutely. Thank you for being so understanding.

Twenty minutes later, we were walking back to the car, the twins chattering excitedly about a butterfly they’d seen on the playground and completely oblivious to the adult drama swirling around them. Kyle’s silver sedan was nowhere to be seen, which was a small mercy in a day full of catastrophes.
