I went to my office after that, needing some alone time to get my shit together. I was going to tell Kade today. No matter what happened, I was going to make sure I told him, because Raines was an unpredictable person. You could never tell what he was thinking. I knew he wouldn’t just stop there.

So before anything came between us, I was going to put an end to it.

“Gianna, is Kade free right now?” I asked because she knew his schedule.

“Yes,” she answered, still typing. “He had a meeting twenty minutes ago, but he’s done.”

I stood up, inhaling deeply. “Wish me luck, Gianna,” I said as I moved to the door.

“There’s no need for that,” was her response. “You’re scared for nothing.”

“I hope I am.”

I took the elevator down to his floor, trying not to fidget and wrinkle my shirt.

I really hope Gianna’s words were true and that there was really no need for me to be nervous.

I got to his floor and when I stepped into his department, there weren’t any whispers as there were last time, and the assistant let me in without any interpretation.

When I entered Kade was on his feet, his phone pressed to his ear, a frown on his face, and he looked… troubled. He turned when I entered and his expression changed from troubled to concerned.

He quickly ended the call, turning to me and trying to make his expression pleasant but that only made the situation even worse because he looked miserable.

“What is it?” I asked as I marched to him, walking around his desk and standing in front of his desk.

He still chose to hold onto that strained expression as he said, “It’s nothing.”

I grabbed onto his collar and dragged him down to my level so we were eye to eye. “Don’t you dare lie to me, Kade. Don’t you fucking dare.”

“Why’d you come?” he asked, changing the topic.

“That’s not important right now. Tell me what’s wrong.”

He looked at me before he sighed, running his hair through his hair and letting it loose. “It’s Medea.”

My body immediately stiffened and went on lock down, all the hair on my body standing on alert.

Medea. Fucking Medea.

I was seriously regretting why I didn’t kill her. Perhaps if I did we wouldn’t be so edgy right now. I wouldn’t have to hear her name. Or if I did, it would probably be about her funeral. That would be way better than

seeing this look on Kade’s face.

“What about her?” I asked quietly, my voice shaking.

“She said she would turn herself in,” he answered, looking into my eyes.

“But?” I pressed when he didn’t continue.

“But she said we had to meet first. Not just me, but both of us.”

“Why?” I asked, frowning.

He looked frustrated. “That’s what I don’t know. I can’t seem to figure out what she wants. But since she wants to see you, I know it can’t be something good.”

“Medea’s motives are always bad,” I grumbled under my breath.

I let go of Kade’s shirt, stepping back, pressing my finger into my temple. I turned to Kade. “Let’s go.”

He didn’t look pleased. “Bella-”

“When do you think we’d get a chance like this again?” I asked. “When do you think we’ll be able to catch her? We won’t go just like that. I’m sure she asked us to come alone.” He nodded. “But we won’t go without telling someone where. We’ll tell Gianna. Papa.”

“This would be dangerous,” he argued. “I can feel it deep in my guts. Do you think after what you did to her, she’ll just let you go like that? She’ll want to get back to you.”

got closer to Kade and placed my head on his chest, grabbing onto him. “Kade, I want her gone. I don’t even care about revenge anymore. I just need her gone. She’s a threat to my happiness. As long as she walks freely, I’ll always feel threatened. Can’t you

understand?”

“I do understand, my darling,” he whispered, stroking my hair softly. “I understand, but this is dangerous. She’s set a trap, and she’s waiting for us to fall into it.”

I stayed silent after that, not knowing what to say against that, because he was right. There was no reason Medea would want to meet us both alone without an alternative motive.

I know after what I did last time, she wouldn’t just let it go.

“Then what do we do, Kade?” I asked.

He was silent for a while before he answered, “I’ll go. Just me.”

“What?!” I shouted as I raised my head and looked at him, my eyes wide. “You can’t go alone! Do you have a death wish?!”

“Like you said,” he said, grabbing my hands and holding them softly, “she’s a threat to your happiness, and anything that’s a threat to you doesn’t sit right with me.” He rested his head on mine, looking calm while I looked like I was about to get a heart attack. “I want you happy and free, my darling. So your heart can be free and clear and you’ll give me a chance to enter.”
