Gareth never imagined this woman would press a broken bottle to his throat.
He was terrified of getting hurt and instinctively stumbled backward.
Elara advanced relentlessly, forcing him out of the hospital room.
Gareth's back slammed against the railing in the corridor. Pain twisted his face.
"Let him go!"
Brian's voice rang out, getting closer.
Elara glanced over instinctively and saw Lina trailing just behind him.
Gareth seized the moment she was distracted. He twisted her wrist and shoved the jagged glass toward her eye.
"You wretch! Let's see who really has the upper hand here!"
Brian lunged forward and grabbed Gareth's arm, stopping him just in time.
The broken bottle tumbled to the floor, shattering into a hundred pieces.
"Brian, you saw it! First she drove your aunt to her grave, and now she's attacking me—she—"
"Father," Brian cut him off coldly, "Gage never did anything to you. Don't drag innocent people into this."
The nurse, exasperated by all the commotion, quietly closed the door to the hospital room.
Elara hurried to the small window, peering out anxiously before turning back to Gareth, her gaze icy as steel.
"Listen up, Gareth!
First, the house in Willowbrook Estates is under Brian's name, which makes it half mine. You have twenty-four hours to move out. If you're even a minute late, I'll call the police and report you for trespassing.
Second, Nanette paraded around the neighborhood with banners and a megaphone, spreading slander about me. I've kept all the evidence. My lawyer will be filing a criminal complaint."
"Your lawyer?" Gareth scoffed. "What attorney in Kingston would dare take on the Vincent family for you?"
"If Kingston doesn't have one, I'll find one in the capital. If you push me, Gareth, I promise you'll see the consequences."
Elara's words were also meant for Brian.
Before Elara could respond, Gareth burst out, "Brian, if we leave Willowbrook, where am I supposed to live? Where's Lina supposed to go?"
Brian's expression was unreadable. "You own several properties. Pick whichever you like. As for her, I'll make other arrangements."
Gareth was speechless. Losing the old estate meant losing the last bit of dignity he had left.
Elara let out a half-laugh and said, not too loud but clear enough for Brian to hear, "Even your own father refuses to listen to you. So tell me, who do you think you are?"
A chill swept over Brian's face.
Lina, who had been silent all this time, finally lowered her eyes and said softly, "Brian, I know Elara's being harsh, but Uncle Gareth is at fault too. The Vincent family's already under enough scrutiny. We should put the family's reputation first."
Elara was surprised—Lina was actually willing to see Gareth taken away.
But what shocked her even more was that Lina suggested Brian let it happen, and Gareth didn't curse her for it.
When the officers led Gareth away, Brian's face was stone cold.
"Do you really have to make enemies of everyone in the Vincent family?"
