To Love a Shadow, To Be the Sun novel Chapter 150

"What's wrong with my tone? Did I break your heart or bring shame to your entire family tree?"

For a moment, Yves Caldwell wasn't sure if he should snap back at her.

Just then, the back door opened and Lina stepped out of the car.

Summer could hardly believe her eyes. It was only seven thirty—surely Lina hadn't been hanging around Platinum Bay since dawn.

The thought of Elara missing while Brian spent the night with some floozy sent Summer's anger bubbling over.

"Well, aren't you eager? The divorce isn't even final and you're already crawling your way in. Did your mother even check the species before she had you?"

Lina swallowed the insult without a word, smoothing her expression as she stepped forward. "My brother's got the flu. Don't bother him with trivial matters—tell me whatever you need."

His wife has vanished and she calls that a trivial matter?

Summer was about to blurt out the news about Elara when Lina added, "As long as it's within my power, I'll handle it for you."

So, in other words, she wasn't letting anything reach Brian.

Summer had had enough. She tried to skirt past Lina and reach for the back door.

"I told you, don't disturb my brother. He's sick."

Lina blocked her—deliberately bumping into Summer.

By now, Summer was so furious she wanted to punch someone. She didn't hesitate, shoving Lina hard.

Lina stumbled, the back of her head slamming into the car door.

"Miss Winters, are you alright?" Yves Caldwell rushed over to check on her.

But Lina's head lolled to the side—she'd passed out.

"Damn, she hit her head!" Yves fumbled for his phone and dialed emergency services.

Right then, the car door swung open again and Brian stepped out.

He looked like hell—dark circles under his eyes, his face pale and drawn. Clearly, a night of insomnia over Elara and Wayne had done a number on him. His gaze swept over Lina's unconscious form, growing even colder.

Summer, still rattled, blurted out, "Brian, your wife—"

"Shut up!" Brian snapped, cutting her off. "Let your brother come deal with the mess you've made!"

Summer was speechless.

Summer snapped her mouth shut.

He didn't spare her a glance, just strode away. Yves hurried after him.

Charles turned to his sister, face stern. "Getting physical with someone like that—aren't you worried about stooping to her level?"

Summer bit her lip. "Elara's missing. She's been gone all night—I'm just worried, okay?"

Charles frowned. "What?"

Summer's eyes filled with tears. "It's because of the company—Wayne took her out for dinner, and she never came back. It's been hours, and God knows what she's going through."

Charles stayed calm, pressing her for details, then quickly reached out to a friend to check the security cameras in the area that night.

Sure enough, they found something.

Wayne had carried Elara to his car.

"That bastard. He told me she took a cab on her own," Summer spat.

"Let's go—we're calling the police and we're going to find Wayne," Charles said.
