To Love a Shadow, To Be the Sun novel Chapter 207

“Uh… Uncle, a friend needs me. I’ll head out for a bit.”

Zane’s eyes flickered over him—just a casual glance, but it made Ryan’s whole back go rigid.

The moment seemed to freeze in place for a few heartbeats.

Zane finally spoke, calm and unhurried. “Not going to ask for my help this time?”

“Huh?” Ryan quickly caught on and shook his head. “No need, sir.”

The window rolled up. Just as the bulletproof glass sealed shut, Ryan glimpsed his uncle’s lips pressed into a cold, hard line.

Ryan took Mrs. Archer to a private clinic.

After the doctor reviewed her records, he wasted no time in starting treatment.

“Medication alone won’t cut it. You’ll need intravenous therapy as well,” the doctor explained.

Mrs. Archer looked uneasy. “But it’s hard for me to get out much.”

The doctor smiled, understanding. “Don’t worry, Mr. Ryan already filled me in. I’ll have a trusted nurse come by your place every day for the IV. No one will know.”

Mrs. Archer let out a sigh of relief.

Outside the infusion room, Elara turned her gaze away from the frosted window.

Ryan was out by the back door, smoking.

She walked over. “You never used to smoke.”

Ryan stubbed out the cigarette right away.

“Dr. Ashford wrote up an amnesia diagnosis for me. Even Victor Lawrence believed it, so you can trust him completely.”

Elara’s voice softened, but her words cut deep. “So, to protect Rose and your grandfather, you plan to keep pretending you don’t know them?”

Ryan was quiet for several seconds. “The Lawrence family is complicated. My mother’s too impulsive to keep things under wraps. At least for now, it’s better we don’t reunite.”

“Your grandfather developed serious heart problems after you faked your death. He’s old—how many four-year stretches does anyone get at that age? I hope you never regret what you’re doing, not for a single day.”

She finished and looked away, her eyes fixed on something distant.

“That’s—”

Before he could finish, he saw Elara suddenly surrounded by several shadowy men.

She tried to fight them off but got shoved and dragged into a nearby alley.

Clutching her bag of herbs, Elara found herself backed against a wall, eyeing the strangers warily.

“Elara!” Gareth stepped out from behind the group, looming over her. “Where’s Willow Archer?”

“Who?” she replied coldly.

Gareth didn’t hesitate. He grabbed her by the throat and slammed her against the wall.

“Don’t play dumb. Willow Archer’s been a widow for years, barely keeps in touch with anyone from home. You’re the only person she’s close to. Where are you hiding her?”

Elara’s head smacked against the concrete—her vision went black for a split second.

“Oh, you mean Mrs. Archer?” She gave a bitter little smile. “We got close after she worked a few days at Platinum Bay? Please, I moved out ages ago. Now it’s just her and Brian left there—they’re the ones you should be asking.”
