To Love a Shadow, To Be the Sun novel Chapter 243

“President Calloway, what a coincidence.”

With a pleasant smile, Jason squeezed himself between the two women, ignoring Elara and turning his attention to Summer.

“Did I just hear President Calloway question my charm?”

Everyone knew that the Lawrence family’s eldest son was all polished manners on the surface—but ruthless beneath. Otherwise, how could he have gotten rid of his own younger brother?

Summer’s throat tightened. Forcing herself to stay calm, she said, “It’s a misunderstanding. We thought you were someone else.”

Jason shrugged off her answer, then turned to Elara. “Did you pick out the star of the night for yourself?”

Elara rubbed her fingers together nervously. “We’re just here to celebrate. I don’t really know how these things work…” She just wanted to observe, not participate.

But Jason cut her off before she could finish. “You’re right, it’s a celebration. Let me handle the arrangements.”

Elara was speechless.

Three minutes later—

Two perfect rows of handsome men stood at attention beside their booth.

Ten on the left, ten on the right. Tall, muscular types, boy-next-door charmers, and everything in between.

Each wore an inviting professional smile and bowed in unison. “Good evening, ladies!”

Elara was so shocked she wished she could disappear into thin air.

Summer’s jaw dropped. She couldn’t help blurting, “Holy—crap!”

Elara leapt up, flustered. “Mr. Lawrence, this is way too much. Really, there’s no need—”

But Jason just put on a knowing look and smiled. “Come on, Elara, no need to be shy. Tonight’s on me. You two just have fun.”

With that, Jason turned to leave. But as he took a step, he spotted Brian standing at the edge of their booth, his expression cold, gaze sharp as an arrow fixed on Jason.

Jason paused, then forced a smile that couldn’t have looked more fake.

“Weren’t you in a wheelchair this morning? Now you’re partying at a bar? Mr. Vincent—no, I should say, Vice President Vincent. Your recovery speed is almost inhuman.”

Brian had rushed straight from the hospital after hearing Elara was at a bar. His cheeks were still pale.

Jason turned to Elara, raising an eyebrow in triumph. “I just helped you tick off your almost-ex-husband. How are you going to thank me?”

Elara glanced at him, neither pleased nor annoyed. “You took advantage of me just now, so I’d say we’re even.”

With that, she told Summer she was heading to the restroom.

As soon as she left, Summer stared at the empty glass on the table and suddenly jumped up.

“Oh no! She finished that shot!”

“Crap, she drank the whole thing!”

Jason waved her off. “It was just one drink—not even enough to get started.”

Summer staggered after Elara, panicked. “She’s a total lightweight!”

Elara splashed cold water on her face, but her head was still spinning.
