To Love a Shadow, To Be the Sun novel Chapter 270

Yves Caldwell froze for a moment, then forced a smile. “Mr. Vincent said the agreement will only be needed when it’s time to register the marriage, so he’s holding onto it for now.”

Elara’s eyes darkened. “Then tell him not to try any tricks.”

Yves gave a bitter laugh. “Ma’am, you might not have heard—at the last board meeting, Mr. Ellis gave Mr. Vincent only two weeks to solve the battery problem for the trucks. If he fails, he won’t just be kicked out of the company—they’ll make him pay damages to the shareholders as well.”

He paused, lowering his voice. “Ever since the divorce, Mr. Vincent’s authority has been stripped away bit by bit. He’s been banished to a tiny office, and I’ve been reassigned to the secretarial pool. With a knife at his throat, he wouldn’t dare pull any stunts now.”

Elara didn’t respond, but she put away the trust beneficiary contract.

Once Yves Caldwell left, Summer immediately burst in. “Don’t fall for his nonsense. Divorce is no time to go soft.”

Elara broke into laughter. “What makes you think I’m wavering?”

Summer pointed at Elara’s brow. “You frowned just now when Yves Caldwell mentioned Mr. Vincent’s miserable state.”

“I did?” Elara reached up to touch her forehead.

“You did,” Summer insisted.

Elara grinned. “Maybe you need your eyes checked.”

In the modest vice president’s office at SiliconCrest Group—

Yves Caldwell stood in front of the desk. “She accepted the contract, but she still asked about the divorce. If those rumors about her and Mr. Lawrence are true… I’m afraid there’s no turning back this time. Mr. Vincent, at this point, our only hope is Professor Goldsmith’s student.”

Brian sat at his cluttered desk, massaging his temples.

Yves Caldwell hesitated, as if wanting to say more.

Gregory took the seat across from him. “You have to marry my daughter.”

Brian gave a short laugh. “What’s the plan—hold the wedding in prison?”

Gregory heard the mockery in his tone. “Perhaps you don’t know, Mr. Vincent, but Elara used to be my student. I was the one who got her into the R&D team at Ignition Dynamics. The reason she was able to develop the battery for the heavy trucks was because she stole Hayden’s data.”

Brian leaned his head on his hand, looking as if he was paying close attention.

Gregory grew more agitated. “When it comes to lifespan, Ignition Dynamics’ battery can’t compare to the genuine article Hayden holds. If you don’t believe me, request an independent test. With Hayden Everly on your side, you’d have no trouble staging a comeback.”

Brian’s eyes narrowed slightly. “You know my situation far too well, Professor Goldsmith. I imagine you have more than one condition.”

Gregory stood abruptly, voice rising. “I want you to announce your impending divorce from Elara—publicly, in black and white. State for the record that she’s a shameless woman, habitually unfaithful, and a disgrace to the Vincent name. I want everyone to know the Vincent family cast out that wretch!”
