To Love a Shadow, To Be the Sun novel Chapter 286

The man’s eyes darkened, though his tone remained calm. “Last night at the bar, I wasn’t looking for a woman.”

Elara’s hands paused for a split second, her gaze lingering on his fingers as she answered softly, “I know. Whatever happens, just follow your heart.”

Zane’s expression grew even more unreadable at her words, shadows deepening in his eyes. But this wasn’t the time for confessions—things were urgent now.

He slid his hand from hers, flashing a wry grin. “Right now, my only instinct is to get out of here.”

With that, he turned away and reached his hand back into the cramped space.

“Careful with your wound,” Elara cautioned.

Zane’s mood seemed buoyant. “Don’t worry. Your magic touch already stopped the bleeding.”

The heat was stifling, the air so thick it pressed their clothes against burning skin.

His shirt was soaked through, clinging tightly and outlining every hard, powerful line of his chest and arms.

There was no denying it—he’d won this round.

Elara’s heart skipped for reasons she couldn’t explain.

Meanwhile, outside in the main hall:

The expert they’d called wouldn’t arrive for another hour at best, so Jason worked diligently to keep everyone calm.

Lina glanced at the time, anxiety twisting in her gut. She was sure the two trapped inside were probably overheating by now. Without a hint of subtlety, she marched over to Brian—ignoring the cluster of company executives nearby.

“Brian,” she called out clearly, making sure everyone could hear, “about ten minutes ago, I saw your wife go into the demo suite with Mr. Lawrence. Neither of them have come out… Do you think something might have happened to them?”

Her words sent a ripple through the crowd.

“Mr. Lawrence, this isn’t a joke. What if something really happened to them in there?”

Before Jason could answer, Brian stepped in, taking control of the conversation. “How can you question the safety of Mr. Lawrence’s event?”

Lina heard the protective note in Brian’s voice, and her mind raced for another tactic to steer everyone toward the demo suite. Just then, a loud crash echoed from that direction—“boom!”

She seized the opportunity. “What on earth are they doing in there?”

Jason’s smile vanished, his tone turning frosty. “I asked Director Jules to check the battery module for me. My uncle, as host, simply accompanied him. Is there a problem with that?”

“Even so,” Lina insisted, “we’re all concerned. Why don’t we go check it out together?”

With that, she rallied everyone and led the crowd toward the demo suite.

She was the first around the corner—and promptly collided with someone coming the other way.
