“But I just can’t help wanting to be good to you,” Lina said softly.
Brian barely reacted to her attempt at flattery. “Whatever happens between me and her is none of your business. Understand?”
Lina nodded obediently.
When she didn’t take the tissues he offered, Brian simply reached over and gently wiped the tears from her cheeks himself.
At that moment, the office door swung open and Felice entered.
She took one look at the scene and her expression darkened.
“You two aren’t even related by blood. There’s no need to be so close, like you’re real siblings.”
Brian tossed the tissue into the trash, a faint smile still lingering on his lips.
“What can I do for you, Grandmother?”
Ever since Felice had turned the company over to Brian, she rarely visited in person. For her to show up in his office now, something serious must be going on.
“I’m here for her,” Felice said, her eyes landing on Lina.
Lina shrank back in alarm, instinctively edging closer to Brian’s arm.
Felice’s gaze sharpened, turning icy.
“Keeping this woman around is bound to cause trouble sooner or later. She’ll only bring shame to the Vincent family name. To avoid unnecessary complications, I’ve decided she needs to be sterilized.”
Lina stared at her in shock.
This old witch really was cut from the same cloth as Ellis. Like attracts like, she thought bitterly.
Clutching Brian’s hand, Lina pleaded, “Please, I don’t want to go.”
Felice scoffed. “This isn’t up to you.”
With that, she motioned for John Prescott to seize Lina.
Brian considered for a moment, then raised his hand, stopping John Prescott in his tracks.
Brian, however, remained cold and distant, his brows furrowed with displeasure.
“You’ve just gotten out of lockup. Go home and rest for a couple of days. Take this time to figure out what you should let go of—and who you shouldn’t be thinking about.”
Lina nodded compliantly, but her fingernails dug sharply into her palm.
Just wait, she fumed silently. One day, I’ll make you see that Elara’s been cheating on you all along.
That evening, Elara and Summer headed to a bar for a business meeting.
Their contact was the purchasing director of Entropra Motors, a company with a top spot in the domestic auto market and currently selecting suppliers for its next-generation flagship model.
Summer was determined to land this lucrative deal. So when the director suggested meeting at a bar, she agreed without hesitation.
But the moment Elara pushed open the door to the private lounge, she froze.
Because Ellis and his son were already waiting inside.
