“Of course there’s money!” Gareth yanked his collar free, scowling. “But most of it is still in the old woman’s grasp—she never put it into the company!”
He stopped to catch his breath, then added in a low, menacing voice, “There’s more to this than it seems. We’ve got a mole in the company. No doubt about it.”
“A mole?” Ellis gave a cold snort and clicked the remote in his hand. “I already found them.”
The door to the dark room slid open. Hayden Everly hung from a beam, suspended in midair, battered and barely conscious.
Gareth’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Him? How could it be him?”
“Ever since we took over SiliconCrest Group, he’s been pushing for more funding for his lab. He drained half the company’s cash flow. Who else could the mole be?”
Ellis turned to Hayden, fixing him with a hard glare. “Tell me—who put you up to this?”
Hayden’s voice was a mere whisper. “It was… Elara.”
“What does she want?” Ellis pressed.
“She… she wants Morningstar to go bankrupt.”
Ellis rounded on Gareth, fury in his eyes. “Did you hear that? She’s played us from the very start!”
Gareth’s face had gone ashen. “We should never have shown her mercy. She can’t be allowed to stay.”
Ellis let out a bitter laugh. “You really think she pulled this off alone? She and Brian are just pretending to be at odds, spinning us in circles.”
Gareth frowned, puzzled. “I thought they could barely stand each other?”
“That’s just for show!” Ellis spat, jaw clenched. “They don’t even need to talk—just one look and they know exactly what the other’s thinking. Their chemistry is terrifying.”
He clenched his fists, a ruthless glint in his eye.
“As for the Vincent family’s money, I’m taking it. And that woman—there’s no way I’m letting her off. If they want to play dirty, I’ll play their game to the bitter end.”
…
At that moment, Elara was stepping out of her lab.
She shivered, rubbing her neck, half-convinced she was coming down with something.
Just then, her phone rang.
It was Quincy Shelton, calling as promised.
“Mr. Lawrence has a dinner meeting soon. Are you free right now?” Quincy asked.
