To Love a Shadow, To Be the Sun novel Chapter 340

Zane looked as calm as ever, but the tight, straight line of his lips gave him away.

As Elara stepped closer, Jason’s eyes lit up, fully expecting her to take his hand. Instead, she simply gathered his wrists, folded his hands together, and tucked them neatly under the blanket.

“Elara…” Jason frowned, puzzled.

“You’re not better yet, so don’t touch me,” she said coolly.

“I’m ready to be discharged right now.”

“I mean when your memory is back to normal.”

Jason was speechless.

Just then, Victor received a call from Ryan and hurried off to the company, leaving only four people in the hospital room. The atmosphere instantly turned awkward.

“Why are you just standing there?” Fiona snapped, her tone imperious. “Go get some water for Jason to wash his face.”

Elara glanced at her. “What am I, his nurse?”

Fiona straightened with all the dignity of a future mother-in-law. “You should be taking good care of your fiancé.”

Elara arched an eyebrow. “Do you serve your Chairman Lawrence on your knees at home?”

Fiona choked on her words.

Jason, seeing the tension, suddenly chimed in, “Elara, I want an apple.”

“Well, what are you waiting for? Go peel him an apple!” Fiona finally found an outlet for her irritation.

But before Elara could even move, Zane had already picked up a knife and an apple from the fruit bowl, expertly starting to peel.

Fiona had been ready to nitpick—“Make sure the peel’s thin,” or “Cut it into small slices”—but the moment she saw her unsmiling brother-in-law handling the task, every complaint died in her throat. She didn’t dare say a word.

Zane’s movements were so swift and precise, they bordered on aggressive.

Jason glanced at his stoic uncle, suddenly feeling a chill at the back of his neck. It looked less like Zane was peeling an apple than preparing to slice his throat.

In less than a minute, Zane had turned the apple into perfectly even wedges, which he set on a plate and placed on Jason’s bedside table. His lips barely parted as he said, “Eat.”
