To Love a Shadow, To Be the Sun novel Chapter 50

This sleeping position of hers spoke volumes—she felt completely unsafe.

Brian gently brushed the blanket away from her face, his fingertips lingering on her skin for a moment.

Even without a trace of makeup, Elara's striking bone structure put most women to shame.

Brian still couldn't figure out what, exactly, was so wrong with Lina being in their lives that it had driven him and Elara to this point.

"If you could just try a little harder—take on the responsibilities of being Mrs. Vincent—even if you love me a little less for it, I promise I'll make it up to you."

Yves Caldwell was calling again, pressing for an answer.

Brian pressed a kiss to Elara's forehead before slipping out of the room.

……

Elara slept in the next morning, skipping breakfast to make it to Ignition Dynamics before work started.

Mrs. Archer had already packed a quick breakfast for her. As soon as Elara came downstairs, she pressed it into her hand.

"Eat on the way. Work can wait—your health comes first."

Elara was about to thank her, but Mrs. Archer continued, "You probably don't know, but Mr. Vincent came home for a bit in the middle of the night. He was in a rush, but he still stayed in your room for several minutes."

Only then did Elara learn Brian had come home last night.

"Ma'am, Mr. Vincent cares about you. No grudge between husband and wife should last overnight. If he realizes he's made a mistake, maybe you could forgive him."

Mrs. Archer had no idea—Brian's kindness was just for show, to keep up appearances.

Elara didn't take Mrs. Archer's words to heart.

Ignition Dynamics.

All morning, Elara was withdrawn and quiet, her mood weighed down.

Just before eleven, Rose called.

"The CardioStitch approval finally came through! It was a miracle, honestly. The lab has limited production capacity, and there's usually a long wait, but your husband pulled some strings. Elara, don't be so stubborn. Who cares how many women he has? As long as he gives you what you need and lets you live with dignity, isn't that enough? You should really hold on tight to Mr. Vincent."

Elara didn't comment.

Still, getting her grandfather's medication approved was something to celebrate.

Everyone knew Summer was as tight-fisted as they came, so Elara just laughed it off.

But then Summer grew serious. "There's something you should know—the legal team told me that if Brian's the one wiring you that investment money, you need to keep it separate. Otherwise, if you two ever get divorced, he'll have every right to claim a share of your Ignition Dynamics stock."

Ignition Dynamics was a small company—Brian probably wouldn't care—but still, Elara had to be careful in case he tried anything with her shares if they split up.

But getting him to sign off on a five million dollar separation agreement would be next to impossible. If she understood that, Brian certainly did.

Elara spent the entire day at the lab and didn't come home until late.

The moment she walked in, Brian greeted her with a "big surprise."

Lina was sitting on the sofa, her hand wrapped in bandages.

As soon as she saw Elara, she jumped to her feet.

"Elara…"

Brian, looking every bit the perfect gentleman, stood by the coffee table, his voice gentle and composed.

"…Lina's going to be staying with us for a while. I've asked Mrs. Archer to prepare the guest room for her."
