Asli stirred at the soft press of lips against her forehead. Her lashes fluttered immediately to meet the set of eyes that watched her as though only she mattered in the world. The warmth of the touch lingered even after she opened her eyes.
Demir’s familiar scent wrapped around her like a memory she no longer fit into. Years ago, that simple gesture would have sent a rush of warmth through her chest and would have made her feel special. Now, it barely registered.
Her fingers curled against the sheets to hide whatever reaction she was showing.
She turned her head away.
Maybe it was because she was tired. Maybe it was because she knew her body belonged to someone else.
The unintentional admitting of that drew her mind back to her current turmoil.
Her hand went under her pillow. Her anger rushed back to her and she knew it was because of the phone tucked under her pillow. Or was it because of the owner of the number she was expecting to flash on her screen?
The silent device stared back at her for the third day in a row. She hadn’t forgotten he called. She had chosen not to answer. She had decided not to call him back. She was punishing him. However, was he not supposed to call again if after three days she hadn’t returned it?
’Are you sure you didn’t pick up because you were punishing him?’ She asked herself and her mind suddenly wandered to that day.
Demir had asked why she didn’t answer her phone. ’Nobody of irrelevance would call her.’ She had answered. He had been very attentive since they were little and she knew he had been wondering why she wasn’t picking up the call.
That was why she had texted Ahmet to avoid him calling her again.
She had told Demir the caller was not important. ’They are just calling to inform me our guns arrived safely. I don’t pick up their calls unless I have instructions for them.’ she had lied. It was better than ’Oh it’s Ahmet. Yes, the Ahmet. We’ve started sleeping together but he got me angry and hasn’t called until now so no, I’m not picking up.’
He always believed her. So he didn’t ask any further questions. They had continued training as if indeed the caller was not important .
Deep down, she had wanted to pick up and to hear him apologize.
Or was it that she was missing him?
She had spent the whole day with Demir, hoping she would forget about him. It did help until he retired for the night. She had almost begged him not to leave. She thought he had left until he gave her the kiss on her forehead.
"I forgot to do that." He told her with a smile and she smiled back. Then he left. Just like that. Asli sighed and knew she wasn’t going to fall asleep now.
The harsh glow of the screen flickered against her face as she scanned the shipment logs, her fingers moving with practiced ease over the keyboard. The numbers, locations, timestamps...everything was in order. No delays. No surprises. free.webn\ove(l)(.)c(o)m
Good.
Was it because of Demir’s return or because her father thought she wasn’t fit? The man hadn’t given her any assignments that day. He only required her to do some simple tasks and that was all. She also didn’t have much on her schedule.
She shut the laptop with a quiet click and leaned back, exhaling. The room felt heavier now, as the silence pressed in.
She could have left the lights on, and let their glow keep her company, but instead, she reached over and flicked them off.
It wasn’t the dark she was trying to escape. It was the thoughts waiting for her that she didn’t want to indulge.
She got up from the seat and went over to her bed. Asli pulled the blanket over her, shutting her eyes as if that alone could silence her thoughts. But sleep didn’t come.
She turned onto one side. Then the other.
Ahmet’s touch lingered in her mind. It was an uninvited memory yet impossible to shake. The way his fingers traced her skin, and the way his breath had sent shivers down her spine every time he was near her. She had tried to forget. Tried to bury it beneath training, business, and the walls she built around herself.
But now, in the quiet of the night, there was nothing to distract those thoughts from her head.
She never thought of Demir that way after his return. Not once. But Ahmet? Ahmet had always been a fire burning through every carefully placed boundary she had set.
And maybe that was why she had ignored his call. Because deep down, she knew that the moment she heard his voice, she wouldn’t be able to stop herself from wanting him.
Asli let out a frustrated sigh, staring up at the ceiling. Her fingers twitched toward the phone under her pillow, but she stopped herself.
Should she call him?
No. She didn’t want to.
He was supposed to call her.
Damn it.
But what if she killed them for touching Ahmet, what then? What if they found out why she was killing them?
Her father. Demir.
Even Matilda. She’d fail the people she always wanted to protect.
Should she keep pretending that distance could save her? This was not only about him not apologizing. Maybe this was her regret. She didn’t like this feeling
Her phone sat on the nightstand, screen dark, waiting.
Oh, deep down she hoped he’d call. And she wasn’t sure how much longer she could resist.

Ahmet sat on the edge of his bed, elbows resting on his knees, staring at the floor but seeing nothing. His phone was still in his hand, the screen dark. He turned it over, gripping it tight, his jaw locked in frustration. Was he not a man? Why shouldn’t he call her if he was missing her? Was he scared she’d not pick up and again not return the call? Or was he scared she’d know how he really felt for her?
The door creaked open behind him. He didn’t have to look up to know who it was.
Markus leaned against the doorway, arms crossed, watching him in silence. Ahmet could feel his eyes on him, the way he studied him like he was some puzzle to figure out.
Finally, his cousin spoke. "You look like hell."
Ahmet let out a dry chuckle, shaking his head. "You are here to admire the view, or you got something better to say?"
Markus pushed off the doorway, stepping inside. "Yeah. I do." He stopped a few feet away, hands resting on his hips. "Do you even know what’s going on with her?"
Ahmet’s grip on his phone tightened. He glanced up, his expression unreadable. "She’s done with me. That’s what’s going on."
"Well, if that’s what you think but someone is winning her over." He reported and Ahmet asked what he was going on about.
His cousin sighed, running a hand through his hair. "You really don’t know, do you?" Markus looked at him for a bit before dropping the name. "Demir."
Ahmet frowned. The name had no meaning for him. He leaned back, tilting his head slightly, and his eyes narrowed. "Who the hell is Demir?"
