Chapter 15 Another Chance
Damian’s eyes rested on Beatrice’s image on the screen.
She was dressed in a sleek black suit, her appearance sharp, confident, and radiating an air of strength.
But the last few times he’d seen her, she wasn’t like this. Beatrice looked disheveled, defeated, broken. And today, she had tried so hard to please him, only to flee in humiliation.
He felt a twinge of discomfort, realizing what he said to her earlier was harsher than necessary.

Waking up around 9 PM, Beatrice was in the kitchen preparing breakfast when her phone buzzed.
A few messages had come through, all from Gordon.
Since the awkward exchange about Damian’s measurements, he’d stopped replying to her.
So, when she saw his name pop up again, she was surprised.
[Mr. Crowley said you need to buy him a new suit. He’s worried you might be lost when buying one, so he asked me to pass on the details.]
Chapter 15 Another Chance
Beatrice stared at the screen, stunned.
Did he change his mind? Maybe he was giving her another chance, right?
The questions flashed through her mind, but she quickly pushed. them away.
There was another possibility. Maybe he was just making sure she wouldn’t use the suit as an excuse to show up at his door. He was probably warning her not to pull any tricks.
If she misread his intentions and went to him, suit in hand, it’d only lead to more ridicule.
She wanted the job, sure, but not at the cost of her pride.
Her fingers moved quickly over the screen as she typed a cautious. reply. [Got it. I’ll buy the suit and deliver it to you as soon as I can.]
Gordon glanced at the message and immediately passed it on to Damian. “Ms. Lawson said she has the size and will ship the suit soon.”
Damian, still absorbed in his book, didn’t look up as he muttered, “Okay.”
His voice was calm and indifferent, but his fingers lingered on the page for a beat longer than necessary.
“Should I…” Gordon, seeing the opportunity Damian was giving
her, felt a little sorry for Beatrice. “I could remind her again.”
“She doesn’t want to. So, there’s no need to force it.”
Gordon felt something odd in the air but didn’t press further.

The following day, Beatrice headed out to buy the suit. As soon as she left the house, a car tailed her.
She walked through several shopping malls in the city, comparing fabrics, styles, and cuts to the one Damian had worn.
Two hours later, her legs were sore, and her patience had all but worn thin.
It wasn’t that grey suits were rare, but the one he had was clearly tailor–made, a piece of art by an expert, something no off–the–rack brand could match.
Sitting down on a bench, she imagined him receiving the suit with a frown, the disdain in his eyes, like he was above it all.
“Ugh, forget it,” she muttered, tossing aside her thoughts in frustration.
After resting for a bit, she made up her mind.
Beatrice marched back to a store she had passed earlier and picked out a suit that resembled his.

When the sales assistant helped her with the fitting, she couldn’t help but comment, “Your husband’s build is incredible. He’s a model, isn’t he?”
Beatrice scoffed under her breath. With Damian’s ego, he’d probably take that as an insult.
Suit in hand, she texted Gordon for the address.
As she focused on her phone, she didn’t notice the man lurking behind her, snapping photos from a distance. Those photos. made their way to Desmond.
At that very moment, Desmond was just returning to his office after a meeting.
The image of the woman he’d seen the day before at the golf course kept replaying in his mind.
Besides, there had been another man with her.
To him, he could occasionally have some fleeting affairs, but Beatrice could never do that.
No one, not even a fingertip, was allowed to touch her without facing his wrath.
In his eyes, she was his property, bound to him for life. She would love him only, and all she could see was him. Desmond would even make sure they shared the same grave after they died.

He’d kept a close eye on her.
No sooner had he settled into his chair than a photo sent to him.
Beatrice had spent hours shopping, walking through mall after mall. Finally, she’d bought a men’s suit.
So, she turned out to be out there shopping for him. That was how it
should be–Beatrice doing her part as his wife.
Desmond’s mood lifted when he thought of it.

Beatrice had meant to send the suit straight away after leaving the mall, but the message she sent disappeared without a reply.
So, she brought the bag back home instead. Tossing it carelessly onto the sofa in the living room, she dashed upstairs for a quick shower.
The afternoon slipped by as she packed up the last of her things, the final remnants of her life here.
Only eight days left before she was gone for good.
As she glanced around the apartment, a mix of emotions rushed over her.
This place was built from her dreams. Every piece of furniture and every decoration was all chosen by her. She had even designed a nursery, planning for a future she now had to let go.

She had wanted to spend her life here with Desmond, but now, halfway through, she had to walk away.
While sorting through the desk drawers, Beatrice found an old USB drive hidden away in the corner.
Curious, she plugged it into the computer and was greeted by a flood of memories, photos from high school and college, snapshots of her and Desmond back when he was younger, carefree, and impossibly handsome.
She laughed, then wiped away a tear, as she flipped through those old images.
For a moment, it felt like stepping back in time, like walking beside the younger version of him, the one she had fallen in love with.
She couldn’t help but wish she could relive those moments
and say goodbye to the Desmond of the past before everything became so complicated.

That evening, Desmond unexpectedly came home for dinner, but Beatrice didn’t bother to cook for him.
Instead, she took out a box of frozen food, probably expired, and
tossed it at him without a second thought.

“Why don’t you just go cal out? Seems like you prefer everything outside. The women, the beds, the food. Must be better than anything I could make you.”
His mood, which had been good earlier, sank to an all–time low. “Other wives prepare dinner when their husbands come home. You give me this?”
Beatrice barely looked up. “It’s just pasta. I was going to eat it myself, but here, you take it.”
Desmond’s temper flared. “Did you forget that I don’t eat tomatoes?”
Beatrice slapped her forehead, pretending to remember. “Oh right, I totally forgot.”
He glared at her for a long moment, his expression colder than ice, before turning on his heel and leaving the kitchen. Then Desmond stomped upstairs without another word.
Beatrice, unfazed, carried her plate of pasta to the dining room. She turned on a funny variety show and began eating.

Desmond was alone in the study, simmering with frustration.
He couldn’t understand why the woman who had spent hours carefully choosing a suit for him earlier in the day had completely changed once he came home.
Chapter 15 Another Chance
Even though he hadn’t told her in advance that he’d be back for dinner, he still thought she should’ve gone out to pick up some groceries and cooked something for him.
What bothered him most was that she couldn’t even remember his preferences.
His mood soured even further.
Getting up, Desmond headed to the dressing room, curious to see what kind of suit she’d picked for him.
After searching for a while, he couldn’t find the new suit. Just as he was about to go downstairs and ask her about it, he stopped at the door.
A strange feeling made him turn back around.
Standing at the entrance of the room, he looked around and
suddenly realized something. It seemed like her things had dwindled down to almost nothing.
