Chapter 58 Hero to the Rescue
Beatrice was already starting to panic.
1/11
Is it Desmond? No way. Even if he had figured out that I ran and had guessed the direction that I took, how the hell would he know I was hiding on some random, barely noticeable hillside along the way? That made zero sense!
In a flash, Beatrice thought of the man who had called out to them from outside the car window earlier.
Could it be him? Maybe he had been lurking nearby us the whole time. The moment I crawled out of the trunk and took off down this road, he started tailing me, sticking close, and waiting for the right moment.
The thought sent a full–body chill through Beatrice.
Heart pounding, she hunched lower and pushed deeper into the brush. It was too dark to see where she was going, and she didn’t dare turn on her phone’s flashlight.
She could only stumble forward blindly, crashing through the bushes like a headless chicken.
Meanwhile, Beatrice could tell that the person behind her wasn’t just following, they were getting closer.
In a split second, her mind flooded with a thousand terrifying

possibilities–dragged into the mountains in the middle of the night, assaulted and murdered, or worse—kidnapped, trafficked, organs harvested, the whole nightmare.
I should’ve just stayed in the damn car! No, that wouldn’t have helped either. Even if I had stayed put, the second Desmond left, that other guy would’ve smashed the window and come for
me anyway!
With that grim realization, Beatrice moved even faster, ignoring the burning pain in her legs.
Just then, a beam of light cut through the darkness.
She barely registered the distant sound of someone calling her name. But by now, her ears were ringing so hard from terror that her own thundering heartbeat drowned out everything else.
The instant Beatrice sensed someone right behind her, reaching out, she shrieked and bolted. “Help! Somebody, please help
me!”
She ran uphill as fast as she could, but before she could get far, something clamped around her waist. Suddenly, her feet left the ground; her body lifted clean off.
A strong arm had wrapped around her, holding her in midair.
‘Ah! Help! Help!” Beatrice shrieked as she kicked with all her might, managing to land a few solid blows on whoever was behind her.

But then, amidst her frantic screams, a deep, familiar voice murmured close to her ear, smooth as silk. “Stop shouting. You’re safe now.”
The voice was just like the man himself–velvety and unforgettable.
It had that rich, resonant tone that lingered in the mind, deep but not overbearing, polished like a stream running over fresh snow. It always sounded ridiculously good.
Beatrice’s body stiffened, and she slowly lifted her gaze. The hazy light distorted the world around her, making everything feel surreal.
Then, a strikingly handsome face came into focus.
Her confusion only deepened.
Anyone else showing up here would’ve made sense. Hell, a monster crawling out of the woods would’ve been more reasonable. But Damian? That made no damn sense at all.
“W–what… What are you… W–what…” Beatrice stammered, looking even more flustered.
Damian smirked. “What? Scared stiff? Forgot who I am?”
It wasn’t until he spoke again that reality finally sank in for Beatrice. A surge of relief hit her so hard that she almost teared up. “What are you doing here?”

“Just doing some sightseeing.” Damian shrugged.
Beatrice frowned in confusion, “Huh?”

She knew Damian was talking nonsense, but then again, she had asked an obvious question herself.
Why else would he be here? Of course, he came to save me. Duh, dumbass.
Damian propped one foot on the slope and shifted Beatrice, who was still hanging midair, onto his thigh, letting her sit. His arm moved from her waist to loosely encircle her arm. “I called your name, so why the hell were you running?”
“I had ringing in my ears,” Beatrice answered honestly. Sitting on his leg, she felt like a well–behaved little girl.
Damian raised a brow. “And you ran that fast? Are you not worried about tearing your wound open?”
Beatrice hadn’t noticed it until he said it. The second he did, a sharp, burning pain shot through her leg.
Damian saw the way her face scrunched up and immediately knew. “Beatrice, you didn’t do this on purpose just to get a few more days off, did you?”
Beatrice snapped, “What kind of person do you think I am?”
Damian’s expression remained cool as he asked, “Then why the hell weren’t you at home resting? What’s got into your mind to

walk straight into a trap like that?”

He paused for a beat before adding dryly, “You know what? Forget being my secretary. Just take over my entire life at this point. It’s clear you enjoy making my job harder.”
“I’m sorry…” Beatrice hung her head, completely defeated.

Damian sighed, “Since you did get hurt for the company, save you this time. But if you pull this stunt again, I’m not lifting a damn finger.”
Beatrice nodded. “Got it, got it! You’re practically a saint, Mr. Crowley. A man of great virtue! I’ll make sure to show my gratitude by–uh–working extra hard.”
Damian was speechless. For a second, he actually considered throwing her off.
But in the end, not only did he not toss Beatrice aside, he even played the role of a human wheelchair, carrying her down the slope on his back.
Beatrice lay against him, awkwardly unsure where to put her hands.
Wrapping them around his neck didn’t seem right. After hesitating for a moment, she carefully rested them on his shoulders.
Damn… he’s built like a freaking tank. She gasped to herself.

Before long, they reached the foot of the mountain, where Damian’s car was parked by the roadside. He carried Beatrice to the passenger seat before walking around to the driver’s side, getting in, and starting the engine.
Seeing that Damian had driven himself, Beatrice was a little surprised.
As far as she could remember, he rarely drove. If it wasn’t Gordon behind the wheel, it was Killian. Once again, she felt oddly flattered.
As the car moved forward, Beatrice sent a message to Violet, letting her know she was safe and on her way back to Cloudia.
Naturally, Violet was curious about who had come to her rescue, especially since Beatrice was all the way out in the middle of
nowhere.
Violet pulled her car over and replied: [Who saved you?]
Beatrice didn’t want her to get the wrong idea, so she considered glossing over it. But ignoring the question would only make it seem like she had something to hide.
But on second thought, she realized that there was nothing to be guilty about.
So, Beatrice answered flatly: [Damian.]
Violet, on the other end, got way too excited, like she had just hit the jackpot on her favorite ship.

She texted: [Hey now! What’s going on? Damian? He actually came to save you? Isn’t this a little too much concern from a boss for his employee?]
Beatrice replied: [I’m a valuable asset to the company, don’t you know? Of course I deserve that kind of special treatment.]
Violet snickered as she texted back: [So if you do something big again, does that mean he’ll have to marry you as a bonus?]
Beatrice was completely speechless and didn’t bother responding.
But Violet wasn’t done. She sent another text: [With benefits like this, maybe I should quit being a lawyer. Ask him if he’s hiring.]
Beatrice ignored that one, too, staring at her phone with narrowed eyes.
Yet, Violet still refused to quit and messaged: [If he’s not into you, I’ll shave my head and become a monk!]
Beatrice was so exasperated that she immediately shot back: [I’m not letting you make ridiculous bets like that. Believe it or not, he’s just a genuinely good guy who likes helping people. And besides, he’s not even into women anymore.]
Now it was Violet’s turn to be speechless, and all she could do was send three consecutive question marks.
Beatrice ignored her flood of question marks. Staring at the last
Chapter 58 Hero to the Rescue message she had sent, she started to regret it a little.

Whether he actually liked women or not, real or fake, he was the one who told me. Spreading it around like this… probably not a great idea.
Damian noticed the troubled look on Beatrice’s face and asked, “What’s wrong?”
Beatrice quickly shook her head.
“Nothing, nothing at all.” As she spoke, she pressed her phone against her chest.
Damian narrowed his eyes slightly at her guilty expression.

Meanwhile, Desmond returned carrying a bag of food, only to find the car empty and the trunk open. His temper flared instantly, and he threw the bag onto the ground.
Wasn’t Beatrice still in a wheelchair today? Her leg’s not healed yet, huh? Little liar! But even if she could walk now, she couldn’t have gone too far.
Then, a sudden thought struck Desmond–what if she ran into danger on the road?
His heart clenched with panic.

There canidlewild dogs and wild boars. Who knows what roams these mountains? What if she runs into some scumbag? Hell, there was literally guy who passed by just a moment ago! And she’s so damgogemES…..
Convinced that Beatrice musttllavegone in the opposite

He sprinted along the road just as Violettscarapproached from behind.

She got out of the car, yelling, “Are you out of your dummuniind?? How can you run in the middle of the road in the deadloff”
She stopped mid–sentence when she saw who it was:.
Desmond froze for a moment, staring at Violet, who stood there with one hand on her hip.
Then, realizing something, he rushed over and yanked open the passenger–side door, only to find it empty.
He then checked the backseat, asking, “Where’s Beatrice?”
Violet retorted, “How the hell should I know? I was just passing by.”

“Cut the crap! Where is she?” Desmond snapped.

Violet sighed dramatically, “My dear Mr. Belmont, I seriously don’t know. And unlike you, I have a life. I was on my way home. It’s already eleven, and by the time I get back, it’ll be past midnight. I have a trial in the morning, you know.”
She yawned, looking exhausted, and got back into the car. She hadn’t expected Desmond to get in as well.
He buckled his seatbelt with a stiff face, moving like he belonged there.
Violet stared at him, speechless. “What, you think this is your car and I’m your chauffeur? Get out!”
Desmond didn’t budge. Arms crossed, he sat there like a damn ice sculpture.
Violet had no way to deal with him. She couldn’t beat him in a fight, and arguing was pointless.
So, she fastened her own seatbelt and said, “Alright, alright. You don’t believe me, huh? Fine, sit tight and watch me pick up your wi–oh, I meant ex–wife.”
The second she said ex–wife, Desmond’s gaze turned icy. That look put her on edge, so she just started the car and focused on driving.
Violet shrugged, completely unbothered.

Beatrice has already been picked up anyway. If he wants to waste time here, that’s his problem, not mine.

Twenty minutes passed, and Violet still showed no signs of stopping. Desmond’s frown deepened, growing more impatient by the second.
Right then, her phone buzzed with a message. She barely had time to unlock it with face recognition before a strong hand. reached over and snatched it away.
