Chapter 92 A Secret Crush
Beatrice felt a bit embarrassed.
If I want to go back to Cloudia first...
Damian's tone suggested that he had seen through her idea. In frustration, he simply laid it bare, compelling her to recognize how unprofessional she was being.
But she had merely entertained the idea within her mind and refrained from voicing it.
Why does he have to be so harsh?
Beatrice replied in a calm tone, "Alright. Mr. Crowley, since you've agreed, I'll go back now."
What was the root cause of his annoyance and harshness? It boiled down to nothing else but her refusals, both from earlier in the morning and moments ago.
It seemed that she wouldn't be able to be his secretary for long because she had turned him down.
Damian didn't respond to her words.
The tension in the car grew even thicker.
The driver couldn't understand why the conflict between Beatrice and Damian was getting more and more intense.
The car continued to roll ahead.
Damian remained silent, and Beatrice didn't ask him. An hour later, the car pulled up at the private club.
They got out of the car.
Beatrice strode straight to the rear, opened the trunk, and took out her luggage. "Mr. Crowley, have a great time with your friend. I'm heading back to Cloudia now," she said softly. Then, she was about to leave with her luggage.
Damian reached out and pressed down on her suitcase, gazing intently at her. After a moment, he said in a husky voice, "I shouldn't have lost my temper with you."
Beatrice smiled, "With your status and position, you can lose your temper with the whole world."
Her gentle retort stung Damian. He remained silent for a long time. "Then you will be an exception from now on."
Beatrice's heart skipped a beat.
Things got weird.
Damian put her suitcase back in the trunk and then walked towards the club.
Beatrice had no choice but to follow him.
On a balcony that protruded from the fifth floor of the club stood Lorenzo Chapman, a man of extraordinary height who boasted an impressively muscular physique. His black shirt had its buttons undone to such an extent that his abs were nearly on full display.
He possessed a handsome, rugged visage with sharply defined facial features and a rich, wheat-toned complexion. A wild, sexy charisma radiated from him, as if his body was constantly releasing an overwhelming amount of hormones.
Yet he was dressed in a suit shirt and leather shoes, giving off the air of a businessman.
At that moment, leaning against the railing, Lorenzo smoked a cigarette and watched with great interest the incredible scene unfolding at the entrance of the club.
He actually saw Damian apologizing to a woman.
How adorable!
Lorenzo couldn't help but relish the scene.
Seeing Damian and Beatrice coming in, he stubbed out his cigarette and went back inside.
The manager who received Damian and Beatrice greeted them respectfully and ushered them to the elevator. "Mr. Chapman is waiting for you on the fifth floor."
"Okay," Damian responded before stepping into the elevator.
Beatrice followed him and stood a bit behind him on his left side.
The elevator soon reached the fifth floor.
Damian strode straight towards the middle private room.
When they were almost at the door, Beatrice said, "Mr. Crowley, I'll wait for you outside."
Damian glanced back at her. "The room is quite spacious."
In other words, he was asking her to go in.
Beatrice replied, "Okay."
Damian pushed the door open and went in.
Upon entering, Beatrice caught sight of a strikingly handsome man seated at a dining table within the vast private room.
His pectoral muscles were very prominent, clearly showing that he had been working out for a long time.
Suddenly, Beatrice's view was blocked.
Damian replied, "No need."
Lorenzo asked, "Aren't you worried about her being hungry?"
Damian shot him a glare, warning him to shut up.
Lorenzo was even more amused. So Damian had a secret crush.
After the light-hearted banter, they were nearly done with their meal and then turned to discussing more serious topics.
Finally, Lorenzo spoke up. "About the Fairfax Group situation—are you sure you won't back down?"
"Why are you suddenly concerned about this?" Damian replied indifferently.
The moment they mentioned the Fairfax family, Beatrice pricked up her ears.
Lorenzo leaned back in his chair. "Jane Fairfax is a cousin of my uncle's wife."
Damian raised his eyebrows. "What a coincidence!"
Lorenzo explained, "Jane came to the Chapman Manor the day before yesterday. I think she must be here for this matter."
Damian asked, "What? Does the Fairfax family want to seek help from the Chapman family? Does your aunt call the shots in your family now?"
His tone was mocking.
The Chapman family was very complicated. He was aware of some inside information.
The head of the company was Felix Chapman, Lorenzo's uncle.
Felix's current wife had once been his mistress. At that time, after getting pregnant, she showed up at the Chapman Manor and made a scene. Felix's wife, having a timid nature, let her move in.
Later, the first wife and her five-year-old son died in a terrible car accident. Only then did the mistress officially become the new Mrs. Chapman.
It was said that the first wife was already in her ninth month of pregnancy at that time, on the verge of giving birth within a few days.
Rumor had it that the current wife had arranged for someone to run into the first wife. However, once the police conducted an investigation, no suspicious elements were found, and the case remained unsolved.
Damian knew this matter so clearly because whenever Maria visited Mistbourne, she would invariably pay her respects to Felix's first wife. Maria was firmly convinced that Felix's current wife was the one responsible for her death.
"You don't know how vicious she can be," Lorenzo said bitterly. "She's got half the Chapman family in her pocket. Ever since my grandmother threatened suicide to force my uncle to make me heir, I've had more near-death experiences than I can count."
He shook his head. "My uncle's finally waking up, though. The other day he told me he dreamed about his kids—his five-year-old son and the daughter he never got to meet."
