Her tone sounded playful yet filled with protest as she twisted against him. The slippery edge of the tub nearly sent her falling backward.
Jonathan’s arms tightened instantly. Her nearly bare body pressed against him, her bra the only thing between his skin and hers. Her smooth, wet warmth filled his hold.
Sweat dripped across his forehead. The steam fogged the bathroom until the air felt suffocating. His mouth went dry, and his throat ached for air.
With sight cut off, every other sense sharpened.
Her faint scent hit him with the force of a drug. The soft, stubborn noises she made, the slick glide of her skin beneath his hands, the curves pressed insistently against him–each detail tested his restraint.
His body betrayed him, and something down there stood up stiffly.
A vein at his temple throbbed. He abandoned the struggle to peel her pants away. Instead, he locked an arm around her waist, lifted her, and dropped her straight
into the tub.
“Soak in here for a bit. Warm yourself up. I’m leaving.”
His voice came out rough. He pried her fingers off him and turned toward the door.
The water stilled. Jonathan exhaled, certain she had settled now that she was comfortable.
Then bubbles gurgled, followed by frantic splashing.
His steps froze. He tore off the tie that had been blinding him. It only made things
worse anyway.

Her dark hair spread around her, her pale face still and cerie. Her hands folded loosely across her chest while her lips pushed out a faint trail of bubbles.
Her slim legs kicked and fought like she had transformed into some restless mermaid stranded in glass.
“Anneliese!”
Jonathan’s voice lashed out as he lunged forward. He pulled her up before the water could claim her breath.
Her eyelids fluttered weakly.
Droplets blurred her vision, and then his face sharpened into focus–tight, sharp, filled with alarm.
“Jonathan? Why are you yelling at me?”
Recognition struck Anneliese. Her eyes welled up as her lips, red and wet, pushed into a trembling pout.
Jonathan’s eyes darkened. The veins in his hand stood out where he gripped the porcelain.
The arm holding her back clenched harder without meaning to.
Water streamed down as he lifted her higher.
Their faces hovered close, their breath mingling, their bodies pressed inescapably together.
The heat of the bath faded. A chill swept over her bare chest, and she shivered as her mind cleared in an instant.
She didn’t resist, but her body stiffened. Panic flickered through her dark eyes. Jonathan caught it immediately.

The urge to take her, to cross that line, burned inside him like molten rock. But reason crushed it down.
His words rasped low and jagged.
“Can you stay in the tub by yourself now?”
Her face flushed red. Her lashes trembled as she gave a tiny nod.
“Yes. I can.”
His jaw locked, but he released her.
She folded her arms over her chest and sank back into the bath. She kept her down until she heard the door close.
Only then did she cover her burning face with both hands.

She had not meant to notice, but it was impossible to ignore. His body had been… undeniable.
With his size, it was obvious. The soaked fabric revealed everything without
mercy.
It frightened her to realize it. And yet she could not stop seeing it.
Why is he so… she thought.
